Lawyers for Children America is a leading child advocacy organization protecting the rights of children who are victims of abuse, abandonment and neglect by providing quality pro bono legal representation and collaborating for systematic change to improve the lives of children. Lawyers for Children America is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
Violence has become a prominent part of too many children's lives. The problem of child abuse and neglect has risen to an epidemic proportion in this country. Newspaper headlines detail the tragic consequences that impact many children who suffer abuse and neglect, and who becomes part of a foster care system often too overburdened to take timely and effective action.
Lawyers for Children America is a unique vehicle for leveraging significant resources on behalf of vulnerable children and youth with a very modest infrastructure. Since its inception, Lawyers for Children America has provided pro bono advocacy services to over 1,300 children. There are, however, many more abused and neglected children in need of legal services.
Lawyers for Children America offers attorneys a unique opportunity to participate in meaningful pro bono work on behalf of abused and neglected children. Volunteers participate in a required multi-disciplinary training session on legal representation for children.
Throughout the year, Lawyers for Children America conducts additional seminars and workshops on effective advocacy for children and on such topics as domestic violence, special education and child development.In addition to the training and follow-up seminars and workshop, the Lawyers for Children America program staff provides extensive, on-going support to all volunteer attorneys.
