In August of 1984, Mary Smith, Emmanuel Smith, John Thomas, Eddie Moses, Eric Smith and Margie Woods broke the locks on what is now known as Smith and Thomas Funeral Home on Madison Street. Mary Smith is the sole owner of three funeral homes, and is the only African-American female in the Chicago land area to own three funeral homes.
Our mission is to provide exceptional service worth talking about. We would like families to tell others and share their experience, encouraging new families to visit us. We have served generations of families for more than twenty-five years and we look forward to serving our community for many years to come.
All we need to do is say the word "funeral" and within microseconds, you have an image in your mind of what a funeral looks like. This mental image comes from many sources: the geographical place, culture and society in which we live; our faith; our life experience.
Obviously then, a funeral service in Borneo would look very different from one held in Tanzania; there are even significant differences between the funerals held in ethnically and/or geographically diverse regions of North America.Yet, despite the differences, these funeral services have much in common.

A funeral service, whether traditional or more modern (memorial service or celebration-of-life), has two functions: to acknowledge the death and lifetime achievements of an individual and to bring grieving family members and friends together in support of one another during this difficult time. If you are interested in making funeral arrangements for a loved one, we invite you to call us to begin.
The earliest human burial dates back 100,000 years making it one of the longest-lived and most widespread of traditions. For an overview of the many different burial traditions, check out the websites in the Resources section below. We have the deepest respect for this traditional practice. Extremely embarrassing and low class manners from the employees. The woman who "organizes" everything thinks that screaming at the families of the deceased will fix everything. Please respect your family members enough to not have services held at this "establishment." I feel so sorry for those who have had to deal with this place that has zero respect for anyone. This Is a "funeral home" and the employees are bitter and heartless. Unbelievable, unacceptable, embarrassing!!!! I wish I wasn't required to give them a star in order to write a review. Avoid this place out of respect for your friends

The grave site was about to bury my father a day later than the funeral. Then the day of the funeral the limo never showed up. When I finally arrived the funeral home said that they were waiting on me like I was taking too long. They didn't hide my father's hand in his casket like the day before at the wake so you could see the rigor mortis had been set in on his hands. When it was time to leave they rushed us out. Again the limo didn't take the family to the
