Burt Langley, Attorneys At Law
One of the best ways to avoid expensive litigation or unreasonable financial or legal obligations is to make sure the terms of any contract you sign or partnership you create are absolutely clear to all concerned parties and under the law. Everyone, regardless of wealth or status, has an estate. Your estate encompasses assets and possessions that you call your own and that will need to go somewhere when you die.

We can help you with planning, administration and probate, and special family issues. Whether you are the plaintiff or the defendant, financial and emotional costs can accrue rapidly, no matter the inciting reason for the lawsuit. If you are being sued, there is no question: You will need strong legal representation.

Family and relationships are so important to me, and I know they are for you as well. It's one of the reasons that, after practicing many types of law, I've settled into the areas of law that we all will eventually face: end-of-life planning and estate administration.

I know these are often difficult topics with challenging decisions for individuals and families, especially for adult children of elderly parents, the terminally ill, or those in nontraditional families.Newly legally married same-sex couples have special issues related to property ownership, inheritance, and adoption to consider.
At the family dinner table while I was growing up, we enjoyed vigorous argument and debate as much as the food. Even as a child, I loved finding out all of the facts. Going to law school seemed a natural choice. After graduating, I immediately headed to New York to work for a large international law firm.
April Burt and Katherine Langley provide protective legal services to businesses and individuals in Western North Carolina. From contracts and estate planning to litigation, the lawyers at the Burt Langley firm offer complete services.

Alice was just 13 when her dad, Rick, died. Though she lived in Asheville with her mom, Jen, and he had lived in Weaverville, she'd been close with him and had always felt lucky that her parents were so amiable when it came to co-parenting. Maybe it was because they'd never married and never had to go through all the.
No one "must" have a will, but the consequences for your significant others after you are gone can be severe and costly without a will. Without exception, having a will in place drastically reduces the potential costs of administering your estate. The fees and costs associated with an estate administration will depend on the size of the estate and the nature of the assets and/or debts of the decedent.

Scheduled a consultation with Katherine. Her 1st availability was 3 weeks out. I arrived 15 mins prior to our scheduled meeting. Her assistant came out to inform me that she required prepayment and he had emailed a link. I explained I had not received an email and I was happy to pay at this time. He said she had other things scheduled and he had sent two follow up emails. I asked if he had my phone number and he said he did. I asked if it may have occurred to him that he had written down my email address incorrectly and a simple phone call would worked. He had no reply and only asked that I write

I retained Katherine for advice after my divorce went VERY poorly with another "top" attorney in Asheville. Katherine was direct, ethical, and knowledgable. I would trust her again to assist me. She is exemplary.

We started working with April Burt as our attorney four years ago. Over that time, she has helped to guide us as we laid out our estate plans as well as our other legal needs. She has been very responsive, professional and easy to work with. She knows and understands estate and end of life planning.
If you are looking for a knowledgable, personable and professional attorney to help you with your estate or business needs I would highly recommend April Burt without hesitation.

First time divorcee... What a difficult experience. I chose Katherine's firm because she was incredibly astute - immediately understood my primary goal was to have a civilized dissolution of my marriage. Life is way too short to get caught up in years of turmoil, hatred and ugliness for the sake of money... but that's just me. Regardless, Katherine was always right on point, doing her job to protect me and my future interests, while not "stirring the pot" in a negative way. I would fully trust her to execute an equally ugly, contentious legal matter because I always felt
