Carlos is gifted and it is apparent immediately. His style of massage varies in pressure appropriately as his hands glide seamlessly to and from each muscle group. While most massage at the typical day spa is clinical and perhaps a bit mechanical, Carlos uses an artistry that demonstrates his intuititive touch for working where your body needs to be worked.
In 1913, Dr. William Fitzgerald introduced to us the "map" of the feet and hands which many of us have seen. Applying pressure to spots within each zone of the foot or palm has direct effect on its corresponding part of the body. It is believed to cause increased circulation to each part, and help foster better function.
It is distinguished from other types of massage in that a quasi-static pressure is applied to the skin with the aim of stimulating specific areas of skeletal muscle. Often these areas of muscle are myofascial trigger points. The therapist uses fingertips, knuckles, and elbows to apply pressure to these sensitive and sore areas.
Growing in popularity in the U.S and Europe, the technique combines massage with yoga-like positions during the course of the session. The postures can be quite acrobatic, with the therapist sometimes suspending the client in mid-air with his legs and arms, as well as, walking on the back. This way the client is stretched into different postures by the therapist, offering a much more effective stretch than he could accomplish alone.
