Benta's is a long established business that my family has known of for years so when my father passed after a long illness, my sister and decided that this would be the best place to handle the arrangements. We told her our budget and she was understanding telling us the options without additional pressure to add extras.
She explained the process in detail from that day to the day of the funeral; communication was easy and prompt. Dean Wilson - what an incredible human being. From the moment we met, he made my family and I feel at ease. This is a difficult, confusing, and very overwhelming process, but Dean made it all feel so effortless.

Benta's Harlem location has been completely renovated into a technologically advanced, modern facility with a sophisticated and soothing atmosphere. The funeral home can service small viewings and services as well as large services. We have two parlors which seat up to 60 people for an intimate setting.
There, on a junior high school class trip to the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, he fell in love with concert dance. Inspired by performances of the Katherine Dunham Dance Company and classes with Lester Horton, Mr Ailey began his formal dance training. It was with Mr. Horton, the founder of the first racially integrated dance company in this country, that Mr. Ailey embarked on his professional dance career.
Carl was their beloved and loving first child, joined two years later by his adored and adoring younger brother, the late Wayne Gilbert Davis. He was introduced to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as a member of Abyssinian Baptist Church in his hometown of New York. I wanted to share that the staff at Benta's were exceptional in the planning of my mother's homegoing services last month, June 2021. Dean Wilson was our funeral director. His calm, reassuring and professional demeanor placed our family at ease during the planning process. His excellent customer service made what is a very emotional time, more comforting as we had to discuss necessary details. Our services consisted of two parts, the first was the actual funeral which took place here in New York at Benta's and the second portion was the burial in South Carolina. Mr. Wilson handled all the necessary

This has been the choice of funeral homes for my family the past 60 years.
This last experience was tragic. We buried our last family matriarch per her request and we were treated with no empathy no sympathy and a really poor attitude.
It seemed as if I was bothering her. The director Ms Benta was cold and kept a very nonchalant attitude as if she did not want to be there. Never even cracked a smile. Just business as usual. I was so broken hearted and had to deal with this only because my grandma wanted to be there. Our family pays well, up front each time never with any problems.

I was very happy with my Father’s funeral service. I’m so grateful to have discovered Benta’s. They were extremely professional, and made the process stress free. The way that my father was prepared amazed me, he looked like he was sleeping peacefully and actually looked like himself. I’ve been to other funeral homes where the diseased person doesn’t even look like them selves or they look horrific/deathly which is such a horrible last memory to have of your loved one. My father however looked just like his old self. My Pastor was also impressed with there professionalism and service

I just recently loss both my mom and sister within 5 days of each other. They both lived in NYC and I live in FL. I didn’t even know where to begin since I have never planned a funeral. I found Benta’s Funeral Home via a web search and was impressed by their reviews in particular that of Mr. Dean Wilson. I then called Benta’s and asked to speak to Mr. Wilson. He was a GODSEND!!! This man worked endless hours to get things done. He accommodated all of my requests and never said no. He kept me informed every step of the way and his demeanor was that of empathy. Both my mom and sister where

I just buried my mom on this Saturday and Benta's was so caring and professional during all my encounters with them. Our funeral Director was Mr. Young. He was on point with everything we needed. He extended time for others than my family members to view my mom's body. When I spoke with him about the way I wanted my mom to look, he listened carefully and made sure my wishes were carried out. My mom looked beautiful, just like she was sleeping. I couldn't even cry when I saw her. I give Benta's thanks for all they have done to make sure I was completely satisfied. They are pricey, but i believe

Our family had never experienced the loss of a close relative and we were very new to the funeral process. The sudden loss of our mother took an emotional toll on us and we had to quickly navigate our options to ensure that her wishes were fulfilled after her passing. Some people had suggested the more popular chain funeral homes in our neighborhood but our pastor suggested that we reach out to Benta's as they are a family owned establishment and work well with the community. He was right! The funeral Director, Dean Wilson, took his time to guide us through the entire process, allowing us

Dean Wilson - what an incredible human being. From the moment we met, he made my family and I feel at ease. This is a difficult, confusing, and very overwhelming process, but Dean made it all feel so effortless. Benta was recommended to us by the pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and I have zero regrets. Dean went the extra mile for us, making a stop at my mother's building during the funeral procession to leave flowers at the front steps. Incredible. A simple gesture that will forever stay embedded in my memory and our hearts. I know the other reviews make this place seem like a nightmare

I was prepared for a stressful process in planning my mother's funeral. Thanks to Lisa and the Benta's team, that was far from the case. They made the process so smooth and understandable. Lisa explained things so that I was never overwhelmed in making decisions. My Mom had been ill and I was afraid that she would not look good but again I was wrong. My mom looked amazing.
For the wake, people were able to leave video/Audio messages for my family. Also, the funeral home has a service where they put your program online and provide a private, unique URL that you can share. This was great

It's the "McDonald's" of funeral homes. A lot of people don't know better so they go there only to receive subpar service and a practiced "pitch". Honestly do yourself and favor and go elsewhere if you want your loved ones' arrangements properly handled. Our assigned funeral director was horrible (with a bad attitude) and convinced us to get a metal casket only to be told (the day that it was supposed to be shipped to another state) that it was too heavy for the flight. Obviously their first time at the rodeo. She offered no suggestions on how to fix the

The ONLY reason this business is getting one star is because of our limo driver. On Saturday we buried my wife's grandmother in West Chester and the entire ride back to Manhattan the driver was obviously driving too fast for his own good. He kept slamming on his breaks and continually laid on the horn, even at moments where we sat at red lights. Really, where are vehicles supposed to go if there is a red light? Or if there's a traffic jam?
The ride back was beyond unpleasant, unprofessional and lacked consideration for our grieving family. My brother in law was so upset with the driver
