We are a full service veterinary hospital providing complete medical, surgical, dental, and premium boarding. We have changed our lunch time hours. We are now open for walk-in services from 8:30am - 12:00pm and from 1:30pm - 4:30pm. Clients that check in during these hours will be seen even if the visit lasts past those hours.
You can still pick up prepaid medications and pick up or drop off for boarding between 12:00pm - 12:30pm. Between 12:30pm - 1:30pm the lobby will be closed and we will be unavailable by phone. This means that we will not be open for boarding pick up or drop off, medication pick up, or any other services between 12:30pm - 1:30pm.

Services
An example schedule would be at 6 weeks, 9 weeks, 13 weeks, 16 weeks, 1 year, etc. We will work with each patient depending on their age at adoption and previous vaccine history to determine the best vaccine schedule for your dog. Rabies is a contagious and deadly virus that can be transmitted to your dog through an infected dog, cat, raccoon, bat, fox, or other animal biting your dog.
We offer boarding services at an affordable price. We now offer premium suites (7' x 6') with a doggy door to a private patio, large suites (6' x 6'), standard runs (5' x 4'), and cages. Our brand new facility has 4 outdoor play areas for off leash exercise. We now request that you make reservations for boarding year round to ensure you get the accommodations you want.
We now refer all after hours emergencies to Animal Urgent Care at 3635 Sycamore Dairy Rd. They can be reached at (910) 864-2844. We understand that after 65 years of providing this service you may be disappointed that we are no longer seeing our own emergencies.
We regret having to make this decision, but due to a drastic increase in the number of emergency visits we have seen over the years we are no longer able to see all of the after hours patients and still be prepared to work "regular hours" to give our patients the best care that they deserve.

Please do not feed your pet any food after midnight before the scheduled procedure in preparation for anesthesia. You can feed a normal dinner, then pick up the food before you go to bed so your pet doesn't snack overnight. Please do continue giving water. Please do give any prescribed medications the morning of surgery.
If you are an existing client with a current or new pet you will continue to be seen on a walk in basis like you have always done. If you have never been to us with any pet before, please read below for details on your first visit. Your pet has skin sutures that will need to be removed in 10 to 14 days.

They take good care of our pets, and they aren’t pushy about products or services. If your animal NEEDS something they let you know. We boarded our two cats there once as well, and that was a good experience.
Mainly our animals are well cared for by the vets and staff at Highland and that’s what matters most.

Drs. Barkman came highly recommended for the emergency bladder stone removal surgery for our dog. The entire staff was EXCELLENT from handling my frantic call to performing the emergency surgery the next day to caring for her in boarding over subsequent days. I cannot recommend them more highly. It was definitely worth the hour drive and the final cost was less than HALF of what our local vet quoted.

Camille is likely the first person you will speak to at Highland. It is single-handedly the greatest experience I have ever had calling a veterinary hospital. Not only is Camille compassionate and willing to listen to what I have to say about my pets, she spent an extensive amount of time in assisting me with her knowledge and experience in the field. Every question I had, she was willing to answer. I am just so impressed. I felt like she empathized just as deeply concerning my own pet as if it were her own. I have heard nothing but amazing things about Highland and I can see why. You guys really

This is my second experience with highland where they cut my black labs nails too low but this time they blamed the dog run he was in and I cannot understand how this is even possible. His nail is basically… gone! I’ll never bring my pets here again. Everyone is appeasing and apologetic at my frustration but that does not give me peace of mind when I leave my baby in your care. I am so disappointed and hurt to see my dog sad and tracking blood across my whole house. 😭

This was our first time ever going here, They were very compassionate and gave us as much time as needed when we had to make the hard decision and put our dog to sleep. Our 13 year old big boy will be missed. Awesome friendly staff, very clean facility, we will certainly be taking our other pup to see them.

Sadly, on Friday April 2nd - we had to put our deeply loved dog to sleep for his final rest. Having never gone thru this process we were concerned about how it would work. The staff there made this an easier process for us and allowed us to be there every second of the way. They were deeply compassionate and gave us the time that we needed to… process it all. Mentally we thought we had prepared ourselves but...when you are holding your dog that you loved with all of your heart - and they die in your arms - well... we were not ready for that. They left us alone to hold him as long as we needed
