As a parent of two children, I understand how devastating divorce, separation and custody matters may be. My role is to guide you through the divorce process; one of the hardest and trying times in a person's life. Every case is unique and important to me. I understand that you have much at stake (beyond your children and your assets) and I will not take your trust for granted.
Many people involved in a child custody or visitation conflict face a great deal of anxiety. They worry that they may lose access to their children or that they will be left out of their children's lives. But, California law does not prefer one parent.

If the current custody arrangement is not working, the courts may modify an order if one party files a request to do so. The courts will usually consider the best interest of the children in determining whether to change custody. We also help prepare you for the mediation (child custody counseling meeting).
If the parents to children were never married, the court provides an avenue to adjudicate the parental rights, including but not limited to custody, visitation and child support. If paternity is disputed, the judge may order a DNA test to make the ultimate determination. A determination of paternity may give the legal father new rights and responsibilities under the law.
Property division is often one of the most complicated and contentious aspects to a divorce. We will help you reach a fair property settlement and determine what can be deemed community property as well as protect your separate property. We also make sure the correct valuations are used and the tax implications of certain assets are factored in when considering your wealth.

Fiona was such a great advocate! She was honest and knowledgeable regarding my divorce process. I began meeting with her in 2016 and from the start she had great insight into my situation. Set up an appointment on a very important, time sensitive legal matter. Shocked that no one was at the office and the attorney never showed up for the scheduled appointment. We later got a call blaming it on day care but a call prior to the scheduled time would have allowed time to set up an appointment with a more professional attorney.

I was very impressed with Ms Burger's professionalism. She has many years in family law practice, her knowledge was evident as she was able to take on a stalled, protracted negotiations and resolve the issues in a quick and fair manner. I read the positive remarks on Yelp when I made my decision to contact the Burger office. I explained that I was facing a crisis and asked if they could help. I hired Fiona in June of 2014 as my divorce attorney.
