Gateway counseling center was founded by Dr. John Hawkins Sr. & John D. Hawkins Jr., M.S., C.A.P. to provide assistance to individuals suffering from a variety of psychological and relational issues, such as anxiety, depression, and marital distress. Dr. Hawkins has offered individual, couple, and family counseling for over 46 years as a pastoral counselor and therapist.

Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) is a form of therapy that aims to provide patients with coping skills and other psychological tools they need to heal from trauma. By revisiting and processing trauma in a safe, compassionate, and comforting environment, patients learn that they have the inner strength to overcome their mental and emotional challenges and breakdown the barriers that have prevented them from moving forward.
Research indicates at least one or both parties in 50 percent of all couples will break their vows of sexual or emotional exclusivity during the lifetime of the relationship. The need for affair recovery counseling continues to increase with these statistics. When a partner engages in infidelity, it causes a divide in the emotional connection of the relationship.

I cannot say enough about John Hawkins Jr. I am a therapist myself and it is very difficult to find a clinician that is more knowledgeable than him. I would consider him one of the top 10 therapists in the country. He is compassionate and straight forward. His style of therapy is supportive yet educational and goes beyond the traditional cookie cutter psychodynamic route. The somatic work I did with him is life changing and I highly recommend him.

John Hawkins jr has helped me more than any other book, counselor, or class I’ve ever taken. I started going for relationship issues and then dealt with a lot of childhood issues. After that, - the process was so positive I stayed on with John for coaching on my podcast and book- related to spiritual growth and self-help/psychology. Can’t recommend John enough, especially helpful with spiritual questions, conflicts, and trauma.

John Hawkins Jr. truly has a passion for helping people anyway he can. You can email any questions you have and he is always willing to answer them. What has truly helped me in the last couple of months is his Youtube and Facebook live videos. He takes the time to address any concerns or questions you might have FOR FREE!! I don't see many mental health counselors taking the time out to do that so the fact that he does is really appreciated. #mentalhealth

5 Stars! Dr Hawkins Sr. was an excellent counselor for me, the best one ever especially because it was Christian Counseling. The homework assignments were very helpful. His approach reminded me that I am a Child of God and that my symptoms are not labels and that they do not define me and my identity. This is in contrast to what the secular world of counseling tends to do—-which is label you, opposite of what God wants for each and every one of us. 😃🙏
