Owens Fish Camp
It wouldn't be called a fish camp if it weren't bringing in the Bay's local fish everyday. Not only do we have fresh seafood, but accompanying Southern Classics with a great Craft Beer and Wine selection. Our friendly staff strives to match the delicious food with exceptional service to assure your visit to Owen's Fish Camp is second to none.

Located in the heart of Burns Court in Downtown Sarasota, Owen's Fish Camp is an ode to old Florida living. From the looming Banyan tree out front, given to Sarasota developer Owen Burns by Thomas Edison, to the tire swing out back, it is a restaurant full of history and Southern Hospitality. The casual atmosphere allows guests to relax and enjoy what makes Florida so special.

Quaint and intriguing, this place offers a perfectly irresistible palate of southern homestyle cooking and of course, fish dishes that will put a smile on your face and make you want to come back again and again.

I don't see what all the hype is about over this place...at all. Waited 2 & 1/2 hours for a table and was able to find bar seating after about an hour so did that instead. Outdoors there were a bunch of picnic tables, bar to order drinks and a musician playing.
The food was ok at best. Ordered the garlicky snails (recommended by the bartender) which were so incredibly salty. Also ordered the clam chowder, which was fine but nothing memorable. For the entree, ordered the scallop dish which was supposed to be their specialty. The bbq pulled pork on top of the scallops seemed like

We’ve been going to Owens for the last 5 or 6 years and have been happy every time. Every time we have guests in town we always make sure they get to experience one of Sarasota’s best local spots.
Our go to is the peel and eat shrimp followed by the oyster Rockefeller then topped off with a Low Country Boil. Of course the night wouldn’t be complete until you have some apple pie and a scoop of ice cream.
We love all of the staff and are treated very well considering we have two young children(well behaved). Fish Camp Friday’s is what the kids call it!

Another five stars to the best restaurant in Sarasota. Food is outstanding. Had the grouper, prepared blackened, and it was fantastic. There is no better place to eat fresh catch than here.
Had oyster shooters. They're crazy awesome. Offered in two shot glasses (I'm noticing, things offered in the shot glasses taste great!). My tongue could pick something pickled inside the cocktail sauce - maybe chopped pickles? And there were horseradish shavings. Ok, bottom line, oyster shooters were really good.
After eating, my friend and I stepped into the back yard area. Blue grass band plays

Went here to celebrate my dad's 60th birthday on New Years Eve and fully expected it to be hectic. They know what they're doing. We went into the backyard, found a table and enjoyed drinks, the best shrimp I may ever have had and live music. Before we knew it, our wait time of 1:30 had blown by (we had a party of 9). Everything was excellent and the service was great too. I can't wait to go back!

Owens Fish Camp has been my favorite restaurant to date on my visit to the Sarasota area. This place has a great vibe, fantastic food and wonderful service. The only detraction would be that they don't take reservations so when you go be prepared for a 90-minute wait. That said, the weight is tempered by their big outdoor bar where people hang out waiting to be seated.
The Alaskan king crab legs were the best I have ever had, including my trip to Alaska. The key lime and pecan pie a ridiculously good.

We’ve enjoyed coming to Owen’s for years. Don’t let the wait time discourage you. Half the fun is snacking and drinking in the backyard with live entertainment while you wait for your table. Food is always excellent and the service top notch. Try the succotash! It’s a favorite side of ours.

This is a hidden gem must goto if you are in town. Plan to wait! It's worth it. I love how you can hang out in the back while you wait and get aps, drinks, listen to live music, and just hang out. The food is fun but the atmosphere is even better. Highly recommend stopping by if you've never been!

This was my 4th time here as a local. We went to dinner around 5:15pm on a Wednesday evening. The wait was about 1.5 hours. They have a very large outdoor space to hang out and enjoy a beverage and light snack from their outdoor bar/restaurant. Once seated the food and service is top notch. Only thing I do not like is the fact that they do not accept reservations. Every time I go, there are people walking away because the wait is so long. Even going early still requires a long wait to be seated. (We were there at 5:15pm for dinner). I’m assuming they do this in hopes that you wait in their outside

This was our second time visiting Owens Fish Camp and it was just as fun and delicious as the first time we went.

We arrived around 6pm to about an hour or so wait, which is what we expected. While waiting for the table they have drinks and a live band in the backyard. It's like dropping you in New Orleans while you wait for your table. If you get 2 glasses of wine you might as well just get the bottle as you will save some money.
We only ended up waiting like 20 minutes for our table.

Management and staff are amazingly friendly which made the experience even better.

We got the raw oysters

An absolute must go restaurant and grill. Got to say this is positively my favorite seafood place in Sarasota. The outside back barbecue bar area with its wood fire, live band and picnic table seating area nestled in banyan trees is a one of a kind. Very laid back and friendly atmosphere. Oh and the food is great!!

OMG! I love this space! I heard a band so decided to stop in....unfortanatelynthey were playing their last song when we got there around 10 pm so we missed it.
There is outdoor seating as you enter the establishment, which leads to a large indoor seating area and bar. This area leads outside to the backyard! So cute and so much seating available. They have swings and picnic tables and benches. The band was set up in this area. It was so relaxing to just sit out there. We had a few drinks but it's on the list to return for dinner and music in the near future.

Best fish we had in Sarasota/St. Armand's Circle, and that's saying a lot. Live music in the backyard while we were waiting for our table. Strong drinks. Excellent service from very pleasant servers. Fantastic Southern sides like grits, black-eyed peas, collard greens, more. We went back to the backyard after dinner for more drinks and bluegrass music. Raw and grilled oysters available. Go there. You'll love it, too. Pix are the backyard. I recommend the porch swing if you can get it.

No reservations. Be prepared for a wait.

But they make it easy with an outdoor seating area filled with trees, tables, picnic tables, a tire swing and music.

The ambiance is undeniably terrific. A down on the bayou sort of feel, especially outside with the three piece band, the wood fired grill and true camp vibe.

Collin on the grill was the first of many friendly staff members, and whipped up some grilled oysters for us to nosh on as we waited for our table. Delicious.

There are three levels of food experience here - outside only, from the grill menu with limited beer and wine selections

One of the best little hidden gems in Florida! I can't say enough great things about this place there is a reason there is always a line out the door ! We were told there was a 2 1/2 hour wait .... No I'm not joking ! It was a Friday night we showed up around 630 someone leaving said go to the back yard while you wait! Thank god we did because that's where the true party was at I felt like I was at someone's house with live music playing and kids playing on the tire swing - by the end of the night I just had to give it a try !!!

The food served outside was a much limited menu

My wife and I visit St Pete/Tampa a couple times a year; with every trip my pop always says, "check out Sarasota, you'll like it"...

I may not have toured or gotten around Sarasota yet, but I did pass through (leaving St Pete) and decided to check out Owens Fish Camp (named after a prominent developer/contractor that was very influential on what Sarasota is now).

Upon our arrival to Downtown Sarasota was pleasantly surprised how nice the architecture is and so clean; and then, a "sketchy" looking place (at least at first glance, but we pulled into the loose rock parking
