The Pines is a quintessential Hoosier establishment. Every kid in the area has memories of coming here (or to the sister restaurant in Madison) for special Sunday lunches after church. It's not gourmet but it's good, honest food like roast beef, ham, fried chicken, fried fish, greens, mashed potatoes and the like.
There is a small salad bar as well as a dessert bar and, my kid's favorite, a soft serve machine. This restaurant has a wonderful buffet! Prime Rib, Fish and Chicken are some of the meats available. Numerous vegetables, different salads and desserts are also included on this buffet. When you think of buffet you might think it is going to be small, but this one is quite substantial and the food is GREAT!.

The Pines is a restaurant that brings up fond memories for me. When I went to school at Hanover College from 1996 to 2000, my parents would come visit me and often take me to the Madison restaurant. I always enjoyed these respites from campus food. And this is a restaurant with a lot of charm. Service is generally friendly and prices are extremely reasonable. I saw at least one review here complaining about the prices, and I would love to know where that person gets their food. The only explanation I have an able to come up with is that that person has access to a time machine and is able to visit

Wanted to try this place for a while came on a Wednesday place was not too busy. I'm not sure what some of these people are expecting from a buffet that's $11. In any case I'll take this place over a Ryan's or Golden Corral or similar. The atmosphere was laidback and the food was really good. The fried chicken was some of the best I've had, the roast beef was good. All the deserts looked really good I highly recommend the cheesecake with nuts on it not sure what kind it was but it's really good. I'm going to come back for prime rib night or bbq on the weekend

Visiting from out of town for grandmother's birthday lunch. I thought the food was relatively good, standard buffet fare. The salad bar was a the standard toppings with several selections of dressings, all of which were enjoyed by the family. Plus a selection of nearly any type of cold "salad" you could imagine - potato salad, pea salad, broccoli salad, etc. The hot bar has the usual - mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, corn, mac n cheese, etc, and ends with a carving station which had roast beef, ham, and a stuffed pork loin. They had a variety of desserts, including a small

I stopped at this restaurant while passing through on the interstate. The establishment had questionable reviews but I decided to give it a try anyway. The building on the outside looked kind of like a storage shed but the inside was clad in old pictures and memorabilia. The restaurant appeared very clean and the staff was very friendly. Most importantly the food was outstanding. I will definitely be stopping here on my next trip through.

I ate at this establishment, having already heard bad reviews. Unfortunately the reviews proved true. While the restaurant is fairly clean the decor is dated. Overall the buffet is divided into three sections: salad bar, hot dinner, dessert. The salad bar had brownish lettuce that was obviously from a bag mix with no dark green leaves at all and the hard boiled eggs were frozen. The other half of the salad bar held numerous gelatinous and mayonnaise laced salads that I found unappealing. The hot bar had many choices which were somewhat better. Among the choices were mashed potatoes, macaroni
