The Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home is an independently owned family operated chapel serving the Greater Fairfield County Jewish Community since 1948. Now in its 3rd generation, our modern facility is conveniently located in Fairfield center. Our beautifully landscaped facility opened in 1997 after being located in Bridgeport for nearly 50 years.
The front portion of the building facing Beach Road was a sea captain's house dating back from 1850. Great effort was taken to maintain the character and charm of the original structure while at the same time modernizing and adding to the building to meet the needs of our community. From the moment you enter the grounds, a member of our staff will greet you.

Services
In the 1940s, the Bridgeport Community was actively seeking someone to open a Jewish Funeral Home. Until that time, the Jewish community utilized local establishments which did not necessarily cater to our customs and needs. In 1948, Abraham Green borrowed the money necessary to open the A.L. Green Funeral Home on Grand Street in Bridgeport.
Growing up in New Haven, CT, Abe Green knew at an early age that he wanted to serve the Jewish community in some sort of capacity. As a young boy, he regularly visited his grandfather in the Jewish Home for the Elderly and together they frequently attended the funerals taking place. Abe became very comfortable with the proceedings, eventually leading in the prayers.
Unlike a synagogue, our chapel was designed specifically for funerals and the families we serve with comfort in mind. With seating for 250 people, our chapel is spacious and at the same time offers intimacy and warmth. If a family member or friend is unable to attend, our staff can arrange for remote attendance of the service.
Three generations of the Green family have dedicated themselves to serving the Jewish community, honoring the customs, traditions, and expectations of a Jewish funeral in our diverse Jewish community. Our funeral home is honored to care for our community's Jewish and Interfaith families and all levels of observance.

We are Jewish and when we recently lost a beloved family member we turned to the Abraham L Green & Son Funeral home in Fairfield, based on research I conducted online. (I am abbreviating as ALG below.) Our extended family had in the past used a well-known establishment based in NYC with a branch in Westchester county, but I was not impressed with the home and its service. Finding Abraham L Green was a godsend. Not only is this funeral home beautifully run and perfectly maintained, but Jonathan Green (now the son in "Son") is expert, caring, and an exceptional human being--just what a family needs
