Horsepower Autocare is a full-service auto repair facility in Windham, ME. We provide quality auto service from oil changes to drivability diagnostics to engine replacements and all repairs in between. We are staffed with three ASE Technicians, two of whom also have L1 Certification (Automotive Advanced Engine Performance Specialists).
We have been in the same convenient location, Route 302 in Windham, and have been owned and operated by the same owners, Bob and Bonnie Merrill, during that entire time. Services
Bob Merrill has been working on vehicles for more than 42 years. He worked for Caterpillar Tractor company as a field service technician for 17 years before he and Bonnie opened Horsepower Barn in 1979. Bob is a Master ASE Technician with an L1 certification in Advanced Drivability. Both Bonnie and Bob earned their AAM (Accredited Automotive Manager) degrees in 1996 from the Automotive Service Association Management Institute.

Under Maine law, all motor vehicles must be subject to an annual safety check. Additionally, vehicles registered in Cumberland County must also have an emissions test performed. Horsepower Autocare is authorized to perform Maine state inspections and can do so in a timely manner. All our staff members are very experienced, and we seek to build long-lasting relationships with all our customers through great customer service.
At Horsepower Autocare, we can take care of oil changes for your vehicle. We can also change and monitor the level of any other fluid in your vehicle, including brake fluid, transmission fluid, and coolant. Usually, you can tell which fluid is leaking from your vehicle by its color. Transmission and power steering fluids are usually red.
As far as safety is concerned, there are few parts of your vehicle more important than the brakes. Brakes need to be checked and maintained regularly in order for them to function properly. If the brake light on your dashboard comes on, do not ignore it. While it could just mean you're due for an inspection, it can also be your vehicle's diagnostic system indicating an issue.

It was the first time bringing my car here after being recommended by a friend. The problem with my car was quickly diagnosed, after dealing with a consistent problem for over a year, and repaired for a very reasonable amount. The garage is immaculate, the people that own the business are friendly and very nice to work with. I will definitely bring my car here in the future.

Got inspection and had new tires and taillight and alignment and put a sticker on my car then drive off and notice a noise have to bring it back just for them to tell me my breaks are bad really then tell me they don’t inspect breaks well the state license sure shows that’s the first thing to check on inspection 🧐 good luck ppl I will not go back just had my breaks done by my own mechanic 👩🔧

Went in for an inspection sticker today (for which I had made an appointment). I come in and the first thing the lady at the front desk says to me is "Do you know what time it is?" Umm, okay, I don't know where you come from or who you think you're taking to, but you do NOT talk to a customer like that.
Granted I was 15 minutes late for my appointment , but that doesn't give you the right to be rude to a customer, especially a new one and whom you could have earned further business from. Oh well - lost opportunities, lost revenue! She acted like I had made an appointment for heart surgery.

What a great place!! I had a worrisome car problem and they got me in the next day. I was from out of town and needed car repaired ASAP. They did it!! From the first phone call to the mechanics to the work done to the reasonable price, it was a terrific experience. They diagnosed the problem and had it done in less than an hour and a half. I feel like I’ve spent a long time looking for a mechanic that didn’t make me feel like I was somehow getting taken for a ride. I’ve been going to Horsepower for a couple years now, and I trust them to keep me on the road. They always tell me what’s necessary and what’s recommended, and they don’t break the bank. They also do the little things… no one does anymore- vacuum out the front, they have an option for loaners (who does that anymore!?)- they even had the loaner warmed up for me this morning! This was my experience on 8/2/19 and my first time at Horsepower...I recently brought my 2014 Subaru Forester to Horsepower for a bad air conditioner. I called on a Wednesday and by Friday it was in the garage. When I had purchased my vehicle I had also purchased an extended warranty through my financial institution. The garage soon called and

On a rainy night my truck stalled and wouldn't start again, I call AAA for a tow. AAA Rep suggested towing to Horsepower Autocare in Windham, which happened to be near my home. That and AAA discount and shop guarantee sounded great given the situation. My wife picked me up and tow service was dispatched. Next day HA mechanic called to explained their findings, estimated cost and time to complete repairs. I'll will return for future service and eagerly recommend Horsepower Autocare to all.
