Vandry was one of Texas' first four BJJ Black belts under Machado; and has competed for 7 years at the world Championship Pan Americano.

Services
Vandry BJJ, in Austin, TX. has a formal curriculum in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu that not only teaches BJJ; but breaks down techniques on the scientific art of BJJ to understand: armlocks, leglocks, chokes, sweeps, takedowns, counters, and many other parts of the game. Our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program is designed for the layman, or experienced Jiu Jitsu practitioner.
You better believe it! Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a popular martial art that blends science, philosophy and physical application toward self defense. Kids learn motor and reactive skills at an early age under quality BJJ instruction.

Many times in our society, martial arts are misperceived as simply a ritual of greetings - bowing to attribute respect and attending class as a means towards rank; but this is simply not so at our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school. At the Vandry BJJ Academy in Austin, there are Brazilian Jiu Jitsu children's classes for the ages of 7-15.
Kickboxing is an effective stand-up fighting style utilizing elbows, knees, punches and kicks. Vandry BJJ Academy in Austin offers exceptional training. Like Jiu-jitsu, Kickboxing is not dependent on size, strength or gender. Our striking coaches have thorough training in French Savate and Muay Thai.
Women are a smaller percentage of active Martial artists than men. One reason is intimidation, or at times an academy does not work with women or even men in an introductory fashion. We have clinics and private classes for women to reach out and expose self defense, and Jiu-jitsu techniques. If you are a female and are searching for a self defense option, call our academy at 51-585-1289.
Our academy has the top trained staffers to teach martial arts, and are second to none in Texas on qualifications, experience and actual training before becoming an assistant or instructor. Professor William Vandry, head instructor at Vandry BJJ has trained in BJJ under the Machado brothers and namely Master Carlos Machado since 1995.

Run away as fast as you can. I trained with William for about 1 year. Never before have I met a more unprofessional, sexist, and egotistical person. He even degrades his own wife Chandra in front of the class. Classes usually start very late due to William feeling the need to discuss his questionable beliefs with the class. Also the fact that he has been teaching in Austin for ~20 years, yet has one of the smallest schools and a small number of long term students should be telling. Save yourself the agony and go train at one of the other excellent schools. I'd recommend BTT, Brazilian Fight Factory

I've been a student of Vandry's since 2000. He first met me when I just graduated from UT and he's now training my 9 and 11 year old sons. Because of that fact, I consider myself uniquely qualified to give some insight into his community and school.

There are a few things that keep me coming back, even when life gets busy.

First, Vandry is a fantastic technician and strategist. If you want to learn every variant of a technique and how to use it, as a 6th degree black belt, he has the tools and temperament to help. There isn't a question that he has trouble answering

Professor Vandry is a master at teaching Jiujitsu. I have my two teenage sons in his classes as well as myself for over one year. Many students have been attending 5-15 years.

Besides Professor Vandry there are all the other amazing , belted, students ranging from white, blue, purple, up to Black. They are also great asset at Vandry Jiujitsu for learning and camaraderie.

New or experienced, at any level, you will not be disappointed as the studio is filled with nice and experienced helpful students.

Clean facility. Friendly and helpful students. Top notch instruction.
Not for "Muscle-Heads" or "Mat-Hoppers" just looking for a place to "roll". A legit, quality academy to train at and learn Jiu Jitsu from a top level instructor.
As a visiting student, I always try to stop in for a visit when I am in Austin.
I would strongly recommend Vandry BJJ to anyone looking for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the area.

Vandry BJJ is an amazing place if you want to learn and are willing to put in the work. Professor Vandry leads by example when he teaches and pushes all his students to reach their potential. His passion is truly jiu-jitsu. The classes are well put together and fun. The upper belts work hard to make everyone feel at home and help the entire class progress in the art. If your looking to try jiu-jitsu vandrys should be your first stop!

Trained at Vandry's for a couple of years when I first moved to Austin. Saw horrible injuries, and no restraint of out of control aggressiveness from the instructors. Win at any cost attitude was encouraged along with an "everybody else sucks" attitude. Students who didn't "get with the plan" were ostracized and denied promotion. I finally woke up to the reality and found a far better place to train.

I came to Austin July of '14 with a Blue Belt from a great RCJ affiliate in Fort Worth Professor Marcos Santos. Vandry BJJ was a must, a 30 plus yr practitioner of the art and with a great lineage this was what I would now call home. I train at least three days a week as does my 8 year old daughter. The environment is welcoming with its quirks and we have made great friendships. Their is a number of Gyms in the surrounding area and am sure that most have a great program but for me and what I want out of my BJJ experience Vandry BJJ is the place to be. In closing wether you decide to train

Not safe for children under 12. They sometimes allow considerably larger kids roll with younger smaller kids. Young kids don't know and aren't trained sufficiently how important it is to tap out, and some of the older kids don't know what damage they might be doing. Almost saw a kids neck get broken while the master wasn't even paying attention little kids chin was already twisted to the shoulder and the older boy kept twisting because there was no tapout. Parent intervened and the owner got mad at the PARENT. I took my kid out. He complained about contract and all but finally

GREAT TEACHER! GREAT PEOPLE! LOVE GOING TO CLASS! Hardest part about finding a good school is rolling with people who are trying to hurt you. Everyone here is respectful and they roll accordingly. GREAT SCHOOL!

I have trained at many BJJ schools around the world. Rio to LA to here in Austin - Vandry's is the best in Austin let alone leading in the USA. Sheer technique alone is unmatched. William and his team of Black Belts offer consistent and superior instruction.

Many schools simply practice rolling around and basic movements.
What is taught drilled and applied at Vandry's is one of the few true representations of Brazilian JJ.

It is rare to find such a great school.

When I decided to get back into the martial arts after a long layoff, I was told point blank that I needed to train at Vandry BJJ. I was originally attracted to the variety of classes because I wanted to train in Muay Thai kickboxing, as well as Jiu-Jitsu and because I wanted to introduce my shy 10 year old daughter to a martial art. But variety is only one strength of the Vandry academy.

The best part of training at Vandry is Professor Vandry and the people he surrounds himself with. The culture is both supportive and friendly, despite the fact that most students are blue belts or above (and

Ive been training with Professor William Vandry since 2003, but i dont live in Austin, I have been traveling from Brownsville, TX to train with him if not once a month once every two months since i started. I travel 6 hours each way just to get to train with him. Professor Vandry is a genius when it comes to teaching and developing BJJ techniques, I have trained all over the country, with lots of other black belts but i chose Professor Vandry for the way he builds his students at his school. I have never been to a better school. Always greeted with a smile from day one, everyone trained with alot

I love training at this school under Proffessor William Vandry ; Coach Carbone; Coach Aiken and Coach Dixon and Coach Collard. They not only give clear instruction but they do not take it easy on me just because I am a girl. I really feel like part of an extended family and I am treated with kindenss and courtesy by all who train there. I think the kids class is awesome also and all the kids train so hard and I am very proud when I see them pull off Bjj moves with confidence and true ability.

Jiu Jitsu for kids? I was a bit skeptical before I enrolled my son. So, I watched the first lesson and waited for the after-talk. It's now been 3 months since he joined--My Son Loves it!

I cannot say enough positive things about Vandry Jiu Jitsu. The coaches and professor Vandry are truly gifted instructors of this wonderful art.

Now, I need to work out before my son goes knee-on-belly and then North/South on me... :)
I recommend Vandry to all my friends!

Okay, so first of all, I've been spoiled in the past with jiu jitsu schools. I trained as a total beginner in Oklahoma at a school called Titan Martial Arts, and then trained at HBJJ in Los Angeles, under Shawn Williams and Sean Patrick Flanery, where I got my blue belt. And both of those places have great instructors, some of whom are world class competitors, and some who are not, but are still great teachers.

I'm not a phenom, a seasoned competitor or high ranking student, but I work hard, and I'm developing. So what I look for when I try out a jiu jitsu place is an open

Pros: William Vandry is great on the mats. Nice facility, good location, good people training under him. He absolutely positively knows the subject matter and is capable of instructing to a high level.

Cons: Don't sign a contract, rules and class schedules are subject to change and you won't get a refund if you can't make it to the new times. Also, if you're a beginner, you might not get the attention from William that you'd like. If you're a chick, you might get attention you don't like.... or comments... unprofessional comments... Some favoritism observed
