The vision of the MDCGC is to ensure the quality of genetic health care and to promote the field of genetic counseling in Maryland and the District of Columbia (hereafter referred to as DC). As the demand for genetic testing within the medical field continues to grow, so does the field of genetic counseling.
More than ever, genetic counselors are playing a crucial role in patient care and understanding across various specialties. During an appointment, the genetic counselor may take a detailed family history to better understand your risk for an inherited condition. Additionally, the genetic counselor may discuss your options for genetic testing and/or the results of your genetic test.
