Aim & Focus Karate
The White and Orange Belts signify students who have started on the path of the martial artist. Our more advanced students wear the Green and Red Belts, and they set a positive example for beginners. The highest-ranking students wear the Black Belt, and they exemplify our values and training for other students.

A fundamental concept in our school is Pyong Ahn -- Peaceful Confidence. We help our students develop that inner peace and confidence that will keep them strong no matter what obstacle they face. We use the tools of kicking and punching to develop this inner attitude of calm and confidence. When students move into other areas of their lives, this strong mental attitude persists.
Services
We teach classes at Aim and Focus Karate by belt rank, not age. This allows families to train together regardless of age distribution, plus allows the instructors to teach the material to the students appropriate for the belt rank. We recognize that children and adults need a different approach to instruction, so we often have multiple instructors teaching in each class.

The best afterschool place there is.
We love this place for so.many reasons. Every one at the place is great with kids and loves what they do. Master Been Johson is very dovoted to his practice. I feel like this is not just a business, it's his passion and his home. I loved how he is always spending the time writting the notifications to include as much as details as he could and he is always there. My son is from a karate family. We know how much work it takes to run a business like this. I feel like my money is well spent and might be the best money we ever spent. For selfish reason, I don't

Master Ben has been transformative in my daughter's life. Not only did she learn Tang Soo Do, but her discipline, focus and self-confidence improved dramatically. She won all Texas tournaments she participated in, and was heart-broken when we moved and had to leave Aim & Focus. Master Ben served as a paternal figure for her those years. He is strict, but truly loves children. Thank you Master Ben, you are a blessing to the community!

The head instructor's technique is very effective. The senior students take care of and help the junior students. Everyone is having fun.

I started training at Austin Iwama Aikido in March 2015 and am very thankful that a school with this caliber of instruction (clear and precise) and a Sensei with this lineage exists here in Austin.

If you're interested in Aikido, I strongly suggest observing a class.

Field Sensei and the Iwama Aikido dojo members are absolutely fantastic, and I was so glad I found them! I also like how there is a strong and positive collaboration with the Aim and Focus studio. I joined as a long-time admirer of Aikido, but a total newbie, and was very grateful for Field Sensei and his students' teaching style and supportive approach. I'll always be grateful that I started my Aikido journey here and appreciate the healthy mix of experience levels, personalities, etc., and the open, friendly community of students. I highly recommend them to you!

I came here to speak with the Sensei and observe Imwama Aikido with Christopher Fields; as I was considering to join his dojo.

[the building holds segregated styles and disciplines of martial arts in different rooms/ It's not just all Karate]

Christopher is a great instructor who is a true trained and masterful teacher of Imwama styled Aikido. The students respect his teachings and show honor in the dojo. Something that everyone should respect.

The groups here range in all ages and techniques, I witnessed him teaching young boys and elder men in the same techniques, as the class learns

The best students and the best support.
Being a part of the Aim and Focus family for three years now, I can attest to the truly positive atmosphere within the school that has allowed for many students to walk through the doors and have their lives changed. I've gotten to see students of all ages progress through belt ranks and grow not just in martial arts, but as people too. It is truly an awesome thing when a student, even in their early years, starts taking ownership of their martial arts while also learning respect and discipline. I have loved every second of being involved at Aim and Focus

My son started at Aim and Focus summer camp after a VERY difficult kindergarten year. Although the transition wasn't initially easy for him, within 2 weeks he was thriving and doing well. He has been in the program via the summer and after school program for almost a year now and it's the perfect fit for him. Master Johnson and his staff are thoughtful, caring and really get to know the kids. I feel so fortunate every day that we found Aim and Focus, and would highly recommend it for any parent looking for a summer camp or after school program for their child. The daily karate classes have been

Master Ben Johnson is not only a great martial arts instructor, he teaches all the children strong family values, sportsmanship, good conduct and discipline. He hires and trains his staff to do the same so there is consistency throughout the day/week during after school care as well as martial arts classes. Highly recommended!

I've been training at Aim and Focus for about 5 years and started right here. I continue to train and enjoy every minute of it. Master Johnson is a very informed instructor and makes sure every student succeeds. Not only do you practice technique, along the road you learn great discipline and respect, not to mention the relationships you make with peers. It's a wonderful learning environment!

My, now 9 year old, was 6 when he started there. We went on the recommendation of a couple of friends a family members. It was a wonderful experience. So good, they had to move to the current location due to number of students. He earned several belts, worked hard, got consistent positive feedback from everyone there and really had a blast. Appreciate the care and focus from Master Ben and all.

I have been going here for over a year and I really love the atmosphere. Field sensei is very knowledgeable and is happy to help you as you learn this art. And the other students are very supportive. This dojo is also one of the most reasonably priced aikido dojos in Austin, and the late evening classes (7:30 - 8:30) on M-W work great with my work schedule. Sensei always welcomes interested parties to observe a class and see if Iwama style aikido is for them.

Field sensei is a great teacher. This is the second time I have studied Aikido with him and the classes are as intense as ever. Expect to work hard while training, this isn't a dance class like other dojos that I have trained with previously.

The classes are always interesting and I am always learning; whether its a new technique or finding that sweet spot on old one's.

There is a great balance of serious training, comradeship, and a bit of laughing at each other that keeps the mood to train just right.

Drop by for a viewing if you are curious to see if Iwama Aikido is right for you

My daughter is seven and absolutely loves this place. She is learning so much and having a wonderful time. The afterschool care is very affordable for parents and the discipline and friendships they make will last long after they've come home. Master Ben Johnson is really amazing with the kids and so is his staff. Thanks so much Aim and Focus :)
