Shobu Aikido Houston
Shobu Aikido follows traditional training rules which are taught throughout the learning process. It is a small sanctuary away from stress of daily life. Besides our regular classes we offer weapons training, black belt focused classes and warrior Fridays. For students of all levels. The importance of meditation cannot be enmphasized enough.

Your training will be of no use if you cannot control your mind in times of crisis or stress. Welcome to Shobu Aikido Houston, a Houston Affiliate of the Aikido Schools of Ueshiba (ASU) and World headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. Aikido was created by the founder Morihei Ueshiba (O'Sensei) as a way to resolve conflict with compassion.
Services
Shobu Aikido means "wisdom" and "warrior saint". The "Ai" signifies the harmonious unification of heaven and earth, personal and universal "Ki" and blending with your partner's energy. Shobu Aikido Houston was founded in 1990, and is affiliatied with Aikido Schools Of Ueshiba and World Headquarters in Japan.
To accomplish our goals at Shobu Aikido, we emphasize the importance of posture and presence. Posture reflects your spirit. Your center (HARA) must be developed for it is the source of strength in Aikido techniques. Mind and breath awareness are polished through movements and meditation. The brain is transformed by the repetitive practice of techniques, while the mind is broadened by discussions and readings.
Aikido classes teach you ancient Japanese self defense techniques, get you into great physical shape and calm your overworked mind. The Dojo, a place to practice the Way, is a small sanctuary from the stress of daily life. The Dojo is uniquely designed for the practice of Aikido and Aiki weapons. The thirteen hundred sq ft flooring system provides firm footing, forgiving cushioning for the safe practice of Aikido.
Shobu Aikido is part of the Aikido Schools of Ueshiba (ASU). ASU is the membership organization that affiliates more than one hundred North American dojos under the instruction of Mitsugi Saotome Shihan (Master). It is affiliated with Aikido World Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. When students meet the requisite qualification for advancement, they become eligible to receive a certificate of promotion.
Shobu Aikido follows O Sensei's methods of incorporating weapons training with empty hand practice. Weapons training enhances our understanding of timing, balance, intuition, body positioning, distancing and the consequences of careless and aggressive behavior. Practicing with weapons also increases concentration, alertness, precision, and decisiveness.

It doesn't get any closer to the founders vision than Shobu Aikido of Houston. Unfortunately I only found Aikido in my 40s.....but after 4 years as a student of Sensei Ana I can honestly say that this will be my life study. You will not regret coming to our Dojo.

Shobu Aikido has greeted me with overwhelming kindness and respect. The school, which has much to be proud of, lacks ego and arrogance. Rather, the ethos of modesty and enerosity prevails. This ethic is led by Sensei Arango, and it permeates through all its students.
Aikido training has been a revelation, teaching me much about myself and the… nature of things. Training functions as a physical dialogue between people, achieving harmony through resolving conflict. Through this process, I feel more connected to others and more confident in my abilities.
As a new student I have been touched
