The gym and facilities were decent but it was, generally, a passive-aggressive, hostile, unfriendly, unwelcoming and non-diverse environment. I remember joining originally and being practically interrogated for attempting to sign up and receiving passive-aggressive snotty remarks during drills by the so-call "instructors" including Perrin herself. Maybe it's improved since I was there but I see no way it could with such terrible leadership; they need to consider who they let open those gyms for the brand's sake.

My 14-year-old son joined Jae Hun Kim when he was in kindergarten and has loved it ever since. Ms. Perrin has created a positive, challenging, inspiring environment for the students (children and grown-ups) and my son has learned so much. Highly recommend it!

I signed my 5 y/o daughter up for classes to add a little structure to our day. Now both of us are signed up and go 6 days a week to all the classes we can. A few key things led to Taekwon-Do taking over all my free time (which I couldn’t be happier about). First and foremost, the head instructor, Ms. Perrin. I was incredibly impressed watching her teach the kid’s class. She is able to read the room, direct attention where is needed, drop in just the right line of encouragement or kindly (but firmly) stamp out bad behavior before it would disrupt a class. This becomes doubly notable when it

Jae Hun Kim Tae Kwon Do is wonderful! Students learn not only the techniques of tae kwon do, but also the tenets behind the practice. My daughter has been a student for two years now and I've seen her learn so much in that time. Further, they're easy to work with, kind, and a community-oriented local business. I highly recommend them!

As with everything else, there are pros and cons. Cons are more personal( I wish there’d be more adults class on daytime, available vending machine for refreshers..)
But as a current student of the place for the last 10 months and as someone who has come from the country that Taekwondo has originated, I can assure you this is the right place to practice it. This is the best Taekwondo school that I’ve ever experienced in my life. When I decided to practice it here in a foreign country, I had to do some research about this one and many others. Once you start, it would not take you long to find

I have been a member of the institute since December 2016 (coming up to one-and-a-half years). Before beginning taekwondo I had practiced another form of martial arts for around six years during my early to mid-20s. My experience at the JHK Institute has been rather pleasant and fulfilling so far. I wish I could come to more sessions per week but as a graduate student my schedule gets insane pretty often. However, I always look forward to coming to the sessions. All of the instructors are great. Ms Perrin, the head instructor, is very professional yet very approachable, very knowledgeable, and

I started attending this school a couple of years ago, after getting over my self consciousness about starting TKD in my late 20s; pretty late start especially when compared to the five year olds that you'd see training there. Almost immediately I stopped feeling out of place in my beginner belt, as everyone in the school was welcoming and supportive to every new student. Ms. Perrin is a knowledgeable and experienced teacher, and the other black belt instructors/students are also ready to answer your questions and help you out with techniques. If you're a sociable person you'll quickly

I began practicing taekwondo at JHK three years ago, hoping to learn some new skills, find an exercise I liked doing and meet new people. The school has exceeded my expectations. I appreciate head instructor Ms. Perrin’s emphasis on students’ understanding of the function of movements and how to effectively generate power. The class offerings cover a range of subjects, meaning that there is always something to learn or perfect. In addition to the physical aspects of taekwondo, there is a focus on positive attitude and community, which you can definitely feel. It’s nice to know that the students

A few years ago I had this gnawing feeling that my life was incomplete so I decided to pick up taekwondo again. Since I had prior experience I was very particular about finding the right school. Ten minutes after I walked in the door for the first time I realized this was exactly the right place. Jae Hun Kim Institute solely focuses on teaching taekwondo as a practical martial art in a fun and engaging way.
But possibly the best aspect of the school is the community. Anybody from any skill level or age group can join. Classes are tailored for whoever wants to practice. In addition this school

Ms. Perrin is a fantastic teacher and does a really good job at running the school. The other instructors are all really knowledgeable and helpful. There is a lot of different options in terms of classes you can take (general classes, forms, sparring, etc.), and I'd say it's accessible to all ages and abilities. In addition, Ms. Perrin keeps things interesting with special events and challenges from time to time.
As a bonus, everyone JHK is really welcoming and I'm so glad I get to be part of this fantastic community. Absolutely recommend if you are looking for a great place to do taekwondo!

My kids have been going to the Jae H. Kim studio for years. Right now, my two youngest are part of the "Tiny Tot" program. Ms. Perrin and her staff do an excellent job and I can't recommend this studio highly enough. If you are looking for quality martial arts instruction -- in particular, a traditional taekwondo curriculum -- I don't think there's a better option in the greater Seattle area.

I’ve been going to the JHK dojang for almost 2 years now and it’s been an amazing experience. Through the school, I’ve met wonderful new friends, gained many new skills and am in the best shape of my life, both in terms of flexibility and strength. I’ve also been extremely impressed by Ms. Perrin’s teaching abilities. Over time, she gains a deep understanding of what drives each of her students and is able to teach in such a way that each student responds well. She can push students hard if that’s what they respond to, or let them progress at their own pace. She also takes the time

Over the last two years, I have been a member of the JHK dojang and this wonderful school has had such an amazing impact on my life. As a child, I practiced tae kwon do and fell in love with the sport. As I grew up and went off to college, I fell out of practice. A couple years ago, I got the itch to come back to tae kwon do after a 7 year hiatus and was really nervous. My former school had closed, so I knew I would have to start over somewhere. I worried that it would be different than what I grew up with and that I wouldn't be able to do it as well as I had as a child. After the first few weeks

Cannot recommend highly enough! My son and I started practicing here when we moved to Seattle in 2014. The dojang has become a center for our family. Ms. Perrin is a multi black belt master teacher with endless tricks up her sleeve to reach both kids and adults. Supportive environment yet rigorous. Lots of classes in the schedule. Easy location. Wonderful part of Seattle!

We've been a part of Jae Hun Kim Taekwondo Institute for about 3 years. We initially enrolled our son in the tiny tots program because he didn't seem to like team sports. Since then, our daughter has also joined the institute and they've both been thriving in the black belt program. Taekwondo teaches the kids discipline, self control and it teaches them to set goals for themselves. Even the little students have their promotion test dates in mind as they learn their one steps, forms, etc. The director of the institute is very passionate and encouraging and all the teachers are

Approximately four months ago things went terribly wrong. It starts with a temporary instructor who yells out to me that I'm a cheater and a fraud when I was having trouble doing a back roll. And later, during a Friday night sparring class, before a match with a girl my size, he kept emphasizing light contact. After the match, he got really mad at me and called a guy up to fight me in the next match without giving us any safety cues. And for the record, 99.9-100% of the time, instructors always watch out for our safety by telling us to use light contact, go easy, or to use control before

Joined JHK about a year ago and am very happy.
In the past practiced various martial arts in several states and countries, so have some perspective on the experience.

Ms. Perrin is the main instructor and she is very good - no-nonsense attitude, knowledgeable and creative. She is particularly good with kids.

The schedule is flexible. Open 6 days a week and there are plenty of classes to join. You can view the schedule online (http://www.tkd-seattle.com/class-schedule/).
If you like sparring more than forms then you can choose to attend the sparring classes, and vice versa.

The community is great

30 years ago I studied Taekwondo and enjoyed it tremendously, however life circumstances made it impossible to continue. I recently moved to Wallingford and was happy to see a TKD school in my neighborhood. I observed several classes before signing up over a year ago and was impressed with the overall organization of the classes. Since I joined, I have not been disappointed.

I cannot say enough about the quality of instructors as well as guest instructors that have come through this past year. Students and instructors are friendly and come from a wide variety of backgrounds. The overall atmosphere

When I moved and needed to find a new school in the Seattle area, I did quite a bit of research. I made an appointment to speak with the instructors, learn about the curriculum, observe some classes and tour the dojang (very neat and clean).

Initially, I was concerned about being able to park my car. When I visited, however, I noticed ample, free parking around the school. It is also located on a major bus route.

During the trial period , I enjoyed the classes, the high quality of instruction and the extensive class schedule. Martial arts has been a part of my life for more than ten years. I

This goes to some guy who responded to what I wrote about this school . Plain & simple I was treated in a most abominable way. Why? Because the instructor didn't like what I said. I paid good money & I was humiliated. I also felt that not everyone is treated equally. I have a right to express my opinion especially after I paid an astronomically amount of cash there.

Best school with superior instructors. Since enrolling in Tae Kwon Do at this school I have grown so much as a person and a martial artist. This school has helped me in my confidence and has pushed me to be the best person I can be. I came to Seattle not knowing anyone and the setting of this school has given me a Seattle family, a place where I really feel at home and have met some of my best friends.

The instructors at this school are the best. They know and can explain all about the the different techniques that are used and they truly want to see you succeed.

I would recommend this

I like it. My son likes it. We found a great place for him to learn and practice the benefits of knowing martial arts. The price is great considering you can go every day of the week except for Sunday if you want to. That breaks the price per visit down substantially. We are fairly new there, but so far so good!!

This is a great place to learn taekwondo. The school is welcoming to adults and kids alike. Starting out with private lessons lets you jump into the classes without feeling lost and out of place. Higher rank students are available and more than willing to help with whatever you are struggling with, from tying your belt to forms techniques. The instruction is clear and techniques are explained in practical self-defense terms.
I recommend this place unreservedly to beginners and experienced martial artists.

The main difference between JHK and many other schools is that it teaches practical Taekwondo. Many schools focus primarily on the sporting aspect and stress speed over power and technique. This is great for scoring points in an olympic sparring match but fails miserably when called upon to defend yourself in a dark alley.

JHK takes an analytical approach to the study of martial arts and teaches power and precision in addition to speed. Master Kim can claim a direct lineage to the early TKD masters, having been personally instructed by the founder of TKD, General Choi.
