Coggin Law
You will not find a more prepared law firm to handle your divorce and family law issues. No two families are the same, so no two legal solutions to your family's unique needs should be the same either. We begin by listening. We continue by clearly explaining your legal options and how the process works.

At every step, we take care of the details, so you will have confidence you hired a team that stands behind our law firm's reputation for excellence. We strive to anticipate our clients' needs, are available to you when you need us most, and go above and beyond to ensure we are informed and up to date on all components of the law related to your case.
Services
As the founder and managing attorney of Coggin Law, Gerry Coggin concentrates his practice exclusively on North Carolina family law, with a focus on separation, divorce, child custody, child support, alimony and property division. With nearly two decades of experience, Gerry has developed a reputation for responsive and detailed representation while also ensuring his clients are well-informed and apprised of their options.
There are many misconceptions about family law matters, especially in cases where emotions are running high. This is understandable, as cases involve your finances, your children, and your future, and matters can quickly become complex, especially for couples with a higher net worth, children with special needs, and other unique circumstances.
There are not many states which allow you to directly address the behavior of a third party who may have had an affair with your spouse. However, North Carolina is just one of a handful of remaining states which still allows you to sue another person for having sex with your spouse, and/or for causing the affections of your spouse to be removed from you.
At Coggin Law, we believe in utilizing forms of alternative dispute resolution to settle matters associated with the dissolution of marriage. Similar to mediation (formally called "mediated settlement conferences"), arbitration is a method of alternative dispute resolution that gives you an option to resolve your differences outside of court rather than relying on the court to work out your issues and come to a resolution.
When your spouse/former spouse fails to act in accordance with the terms of your separation agreement, there is a legal mechanism which may be utilized to inform the court of the alleged breach. Specifically, this mechanism is called a Complaint for Breach of Contract & Specific Performance. This can be set in motion to enforce compliance with the terms of said agreement.

I truly felt like I was being pushed hard into taking a direction in a separation/divorce situation that would not turn out well for me. I did not feel heard and I was charged (fees for both Mr. Coggin and his associate) for trying to convince them of this through emails. $3300 later, all that was tangibly done for me by them was an initial letter to my estranged husband. When we finally seemed to be on the same "page" and ready to move forward with the separation agreement that I had completely put together with no help from them (and I had used the exact draft agreement that they

Working with Gerry and Emily was an incredible experience. They gave me outstanding guidance, and took action that aligned with my goals. They were responsive and readily available no matter the day or time. Their extensive knowledge and experience gave them the ability to read between the lines and strategize wisely. I can't say enough good things about working with them. Having them on your side will give you great comfort in a time of immense stress.

My daughter had recently moved to Charlotte from out of state. She was married with three young children. Circumstances led her to separate from her husband, and a friend of mine recommended Coggin Law. We found Gerry and his team to be very cordial, knowledgeable, and thorough during the entire separation and divorce process. He was very fair and forthright in our discussions, but also compassionate and understanding of the situation. Without reservation, I heartily recommend his services to anyone looking for a professional attorney to represent their best interest in any family related issue

Although I was not a client at Coggin Law, I worked there as a Legal Assistant and Paralegal for a year and a half. The firm's dedication to thorough, expedient, and intelligent representation of its clients would be impossible to overstate.
Gerry's wealth of experience and willingness to go to bat for his clients is unmatched. When other attorneys see that he has entered a case, they take notice. Gerry is not afraid to work late hours or weekends to ensure that he keeps the other side on their toes. This makes it very difficult for any attorney who is not so dedicated to keep up with him. I have

I used Coggin's law firm for my divorce 5 - 6 years ago. Gerry & his team did such an incredible job that I literally had to reject his legal and justified settlement to my Ex-wife (mother of my children) as it would have left her nothing for her to restart her life.
If your spouse has retained Gerry Coggin for a divorce I strongly suggest you either settle out of court or see a marriage counselor.

I was well represented by Coggin Law during my divorce. Gerry, Emily, and Matt were very understanding, knowledgeable, and detail oriented. They communicated quickly and efficiently (even on weekends) with me and opposing counsel so I always felt up to date on the progress of my case. They were good at listening to my needs, explaining the process, and the reality of possible outcomes. I felt very confident and comfortable with Gerry from our first meeting. He was always reassuring and helped me make good decisions. I clearly was represented by an exceptional team and was very pleased with the

I was referred to Gerry by a friend and I am so grateful that I found him. I had a wonderful experience with Gerry and his team. Everyone was extremely professional, knowledgeable, and respectful throughout the entire process of my separation - listening to my concerns and wishes, but also providing me with the direction I needed in order to make sound decisions. Gerry is one of the finest lawyers that I have encountered. He has a stellar work ethic, is easy to talk to, trustworthy, and he honestly cares. In addition, to being an extremely detailed-oriented person, he was also the "muscle" I needed

PHENOMENAL FAMILY ATTORNEY-
I had a matter arise in which my estate attorney immediately referred me to Gerry Coggin, whom he stated was 'the best in town'. Not only was Gerry highly intellectual in his field of practice but from the initial encounter, he was a great listener and had extremely effective communication skills (both verbal and written) when handling my case. He explained the legal process in detail and allowed me to chose the best option which suited my situation. Gerry's expertise in family law really shined through and brought me the result I was anticipating. I thoroughly enjoyed
