Wild Order Landscape Design
There are so many aspects of a garden that can touch our lives. For many people living in this thriving urban environment, our gardens are our deepest, most personal connection each day to the natural world - the trees outside our windows, the sweet scent of herbs or ripe fruit wafting through the summer air; flowers & seeds attracting birds, bees, and other pollinators and wildlife into our yards.

My aim is to find the right mixture of wild & order for your space, your family, and for your life. Similarly, your sense of order will land somewhere on a spectrum between highly-groomed and laissez-faire. Let's find the right blend for you - where thoughtful hardscaping and a realistic maintenance plan can make your garden a refuge rather than a headache.
Services
I'm an avid naturalist, reformed hippy, former environmental science research assistant, 3-time parachutist, hiker, canoeist, camper, fan of Monty Python, future hedgehog owner, & lover of fine wine. I'm most at home in nature, whether that's out on a 10-mile hike in the lovely Columbia Gorge, paddling in our fine waters, or weeding in my yard.
What do you want from your outdoor spaces? Sometimes the answer to that is clear, but you need to know where to start. Some folks need a little help sleuthing out what's possible. Perhaps you've had a specific issue that's come up, creating an opportunity for change. I believe everyone has their own optimal set point for both the "wild" and the "order" in their lives.
Hardscaping elements - location and suggested materials for paths, decks, patios, outdoor kitchen spaces, etc.; Designs often cover the whole property but may span just a portion of your yard (the front, back, or sidewalk planing-strip, for example). Working with CAD means revisions are precise and quick.
A personalized garden consultation (typically about 2 hours) will let us review your property on-site, identify priorities for your yard, and brainstorm budget-appropriate solutions or improvements. Consultations are a great way to purposely gather ideas, so you can forge ahead with your own DIY improvements or know when to reach out to arborists, contractors or other professionals.
The homeowner, an experienced gardener herself, wanted a small planting bed redesigned to allow for year-round beauty while maximizing bloom-potential for reliable cut flowers. Here I worked to create a simple planting planto surround the lovely new deck and patio. We ended up screening the view to the neighboring shed while creating a unique tapestry of plants (many of the homeowners' favorites) in a relatively small space.
