We have been very happy at MOA. Our oldest son thrived there and we loved the teachers so much we transferred our youngest son to MOA as well. The teachers are caring, engaged, nurturing and willing to meet each child where they are at, creating an environment where everyone can be successful! We are continually amazed by the peaceful, calm learning environment that MOA teachers are able to make.
Oregon Green Schools is a non-profit organization that has over 300 members in Oregon. It provides day to day actions and responsibilities for children to reduce waste and increase recycling efforts. It covers preschool to high school. The outcome is to give children positive experiences controlling their environment and help instill a sense of pride that they are improving the environment.
Attachment and separation are part of a process children must undergo from birth in order to become an individual: separate and be independent within the environment. Children from birth work towards independence and constructing themselves. In order to best assist your child towards being capable and building self esteem, we must provide a loving and supportive base for attachment.

Some staff are great, but they have definitely lowered their standards. New teacher "Zia" does not seem well versed in childcare at the professional level. It felt like I was sending my child to the neighborhood babysitter rather than a school. I hoped to feel like my money was worth it, but no. I am looking for another place that has higher educational requirements and experience from all of their teachers. Perhaps they just showcase the more skilled teachers, but then send your child to a less qualified instructor? I don't know what is going on here, but that's what it felt

Not what are family hoped for. Our 4 year old daughter, now 5 year old, didn't show any growth the 10 months she spent there. In fact, she showed a regression in her ability to manage her behavior, complete simple tasks and create meaningful work. She started copying behavior of younger children, instead of being a role model for them. There might be some caring teachers there, but our child had a very inexperienced teacher. The parent communication was limited to 1 monthly classroom newsletter, nothing personal about our child's progress. This school in such a wealthy neighborhood, was not worth

This review only reflects the initial contact I have had with them. I have been contact multiple day care centers regarding touring the facility etc in my search and so far all the places have gotten back to me within a week via email or phone, except for Montessori of Alameda.

Beware of this Montessori! They will take your hard-earned money! Their no refund policies for waitlisting your child is downright robbery, in my opinion. I put my daughter down for the waitlist and have waited almost a year now and still have not heard from them. And now that we decided to move to Alaska instead, they refuse to give my $100 back. If you put your child on their waitlist, be prepared to wait for a VERY long time or not even get in and lose your $$. Such a very unpleasant experience.

Awesome school. Both my kids go there and they're picking up all kinds of useful life skills. My two year old is the most polite child ever - he says please and thank you. He knows some Spanish. He's getting potty trained - not quite there yet. And my four year old can write his name and the names of all of his friends, and he's almost able to read - he spontaneous reads words here and there, but he's not sitting down reading books to himself yet. The school itself is huge and full of Montessori "work" - it's a beautiful building with lots of outdoor areas with gardens and chickens and playsets

The school and it's teachers are great. The owner, Tammy, is unprofessional. She gets involved in gossip about her employees, and cares only about appearances "boutique school", and making more money. There are MUCH better Montessori schools in Portland...my advice is to keep looking.

I have two children at this school and have had one of them there for almost two years. Both of my children are shy gentle kids who I was afraid would have a rough transition to school. Not here...the teachers are amazing! Each morning my children are enthusiastically and warmly greated. Their teachers truly care about them and go the extra mile to make them feel welcome. My children happily go to school and feel a part of a community. They are also learning a ton.

The teachers and staff in this school are very competent in providing the best education for the children. Not only they are loving and caring, but they also understand well the development of the children and do a great job in facilitating the children to learn and grow.

Since I have been working at MOA I have observed the way the children learn and thrive in the beautiful environments. Classrooms are beautiful, clean, are stocked with a variety of Montessori materials engaging the children to learn. I love that this school is bi-lingual with about 20 native speaking Spanish staff members who love the children. This makes the school very culturally diverse which is great. I would send my child to this school without hesitation. I feel very fortunate to be here and proud to be part of the community as a teacher.

My 5 year old daughter is currently attending MOA's summer program KIDS ON THE GO and its been great.

Everyday they go to different parks around the city and swimming classes at Grant Park. My daughter has really grown in the program becoming more independent on the play structure and more confident in the water.

Teacher Joe leads the program with his son and they are a great team. The students really connect and are even cleaning up the toddler play area in the mornings so the little ones have a clear and safe bike path. It so happens our toddler also attends MOA and is benefiting

Our daughter has attended MOA for more than 3 years. She just finished the kindergarten program, and is currently enrolled in the MOA summer camp, "Kids on the Go." Overall, our experience with the school has been outstanding. The teachers have been kind, effective, and very responsive to our questions. The Spanish-speaking element (one Spanish speaking TA per class) is excellent. MOA will also take kids who haven't quite mastered toilet training, which is a huge help for many families.
The school has lovely facilities, with beautiful classrooms and outdoor spaces. The Montessori

The 5 star review is clearly written by the owner. A good quarter of what's written is a flat out lie. The school is beautiful, it's true. The teachers are wonderful.
However, greed and a high level of disrespect have systematically weakened the morale of many a teacher. The owners are incredibly ambitious and that ambition has turned into self-serving delusion.
When everyone around you is saying you're the problem, it probably means you're the problem.
It's a shame because the school has so much potential.

Great teachers, and super student/teacher ratio: in my son's preschool class, there are 2 teachers for about a dozen children. In a year, he's learned so much--can add/subtract/multiply single-digit numbers, is beginning to read and can write a fair bit. And has learned a ton about the world, and a substantial amount of Spanish. Super attitudes from the teachers, and a really great, well-controlled learning environment. The kids in the class really learn to behave and learn and use their imaginations.

My son, who is now 33 months, has been attending MOA since March. He has been diagnosed as special needs, and tends to take more time to learn, even though he has the energy and speed of the typical toddler.

We are very positive about MOA and do not believe the level of turnover is significantly different than other preschool and daycare facilities. In the US, childcare has inherently high turnover. The teachers are very well trained, and the bilingual instruction is a plus.

Whenever a problem crops up, the teachers and administrators are very prompt to notify us and schedule a discussion
