Escuela Viva was developed with two main goals in mind. The first is to provide an enriching environment that supports the spiritual, academic and humanistic needs of our children. The second is to support the development of both English and Spanish language skills. After researching probably every school in Portland (ad nauseam I might add), I found Escuela Viva.
They had everything I was looking for in a school: an excellent curriculum, a staff I felt comfortable with and a program that is like minded in their approach to caring for and educating children. We found Escuela Viva online and were sorry we hadn't known about it sooner. Our daughter loves her school, her friends, her teachers and what she is learning.

Honestly shocked there aren't dozens of (positive) reviews here. Our son went to the North Portland branch of EV for about a year, until we moved away. Even through an incredibly turbulent COVID moment the staff was amazing - warm, approachable, and transparent. We really felt every day that they were happy to see our kid and sincerely cared about his well-being and happiness. And he LOVED them. Great facility in N PDX, lovely caretakers, frequent communication and photos for parents. It really felt like a family.

Our two children attended Escuela Viva and after 8 years, Friday was our family’s last day. It was a tearful goodbye to a school that cared so much for our children. Our children loved this school and we knew they were always safe and cared for here. We are thankful for all of the wonderful teachers, staff and parents.

Both My Children Have attended Escuela viva and It is hands down the best place for early education, not only in the academics but in being a member of your community and world. My first child who has graduated is fluent in Spanish and went into K at the top of his class due to the excellent teaching that Escuela viva provided. My second child loves his school snd his teacher and I have always had full confidence in the love and care they provide for my children.

Just a brief review, since I noticed there was only one older one on Yelp. Our son has been here for a couple of years and really enjoys it, as do we. A few random comments:
- Don't let the sort of "urban" exterior deter you - there are often some campers nearby but they haven't had any trouble with any interacting with the school, and the school monitors the situation daily and has excellent relations with everyone needed to control it. Also there are apartment buildings scheduled to go up around it soon (of course!) which will change the area, in this case for the better

I have been sending my older son to Escuela Viva for two years, and my younger son for 1 year. I agree with everything the previous post from Tanya said about Angie. She is open, communicative, attentive, upbeat, and takes action in empathetic ways when needed. She deals skillfully with parent concerns and takes real action to address problems. And she is incredibly flexible about scheduling whenever she can be.
The outside area has indeed flourished since the last post by Tanya. Much of it has been depaved, and what isn't is simply because the property needs to keep some pavement for parking

Escuela Viva was my daughter's first daycare experience and I was very happy with it. At the time the daycare was located just blocks from my home and I could walk there every time I dropped my child off at the center. Often if I was having meetings in the neighborhood I would see the children out together with the caregivers on a walk.
The school is dual language and when my daughter was in the infant and toddler program it was a very small, intimate group. The community of parents and kids at this school is very tight knit, vibrant and diverse socioeconomically.
Tuition included
