The first non-surgical step usually involves a special cleaning, called scaling and root planning, to remove plague and tartar deposits on the tooth and root surfaces.

I give five stars to Dr. Pawlus. I could write a book about my dental adventures due to an accident, and many dental professionals have helped me along the way. Dr. Pawlus and his team have been highly professional, helpful, rational. And no pressure to DO MORE when I was not comfy with it. I have been seeing his hygenists twice a year, and consult with him for more involved issues. I plan to stay with Dr. P as long as he practices in the Sarasota area. Dr Pawlus is an excellent periodontist. He managed to repair all the "less than perfect" work done for me by periodontists in Eastern Europe. He is also a very caring doctor. His staff are very professional, courteous, and manage the appointments with the punctuality of a Swiss watch. I never had to wait beyond the appointment time.
