Services
A Child's Way Kindergarten-Preschool is a NAEYC accredited kindergarten and preschool that has been serving young children and their families in Portland for more than 35 years. Our developmentally-based curriculum utilizes a multi-sensory, hands-on approach to learning. It is planned around the whole child.
Our curriculum is based on providing a developmentally-based environment and thoughtful interactions between children and teachers which enhances self-esteem and promotes problem solving skills. The child's day includes a generous amount of time for exploration and experimentation in the classroom learning centers.
We have two DIRECTORS, one of which has been a parent and staff member of A Child's Way for over 25 years. She has a BA in Education from Pacific Lutheran University. Our other director has a CDA (Child Development Associate) degree and 90 credits in Allied Health Sciences. Their combined 40+ years of early childhood experience guide, support and build community while carrying out the goals of the overall program.
There was no end date given. In light of this, we are assuming we will be operating under these revised guidelines for the fall. We will then place children in this order: Currently Enrolled (children that were enrolled for the 2020-21 school year), Alumni (a child previously attended A Child's Way) and Legacy (parent attended A Child's Way), then New Families.
Please submit a registration form for each child you are registering for the 2021-22 school year. Once you are placed in a class, we will email you a link to pay your registration fee or deposit online to secure your child's spot. Please indicate your first choice of class you want your child to attend (must meet the age requirement for class - see chart above).

Amazing school. Amazing teachers. Wonderful community. Both our kids have been there from the 2's class on up. Our oldest finished kindergarten last year and we couldn't have hoped for a better experience. His sister will be completing her time there by attending kindergarten next year (she's currently thriving in pre-k).
If you have wee ones, check it out.
Enroll them.
Thank me later.

The curriculum is based on play and children are encouraged to be creative above everything else. My son's teachers were loving and had a great rapport with us, and they went above and beyond to accommodate him. I had multiple opportunities to stay in the classroom and observe them work with kids. They did their best to give attention to all kids and encouraged everyone to participate to best of their ability. This school has a very strong connection to the community.
The beautiful playground does not get utilized enough!

Highly recommend this school. We have been in the 3's class and will now be in the 4's class. This school allows your child to thrive while playing and learning how to behave in a classroom setting--we have seen amazing growth in our child since sending her to A Child's Way. So glad we are part of A Child's Way Family!

Both of my children attend this school (two's class, pre-three's and pre-four's so far) and our experience has been nothing but positive. Regarding the other user who rated this school poorly and citing (amongst other things) their concern about the gate from the school's playground leading to a residential home's yard, that's my house and I have to say that the school is in possession of the sole key to the gate. They are committed to keeping the kids in a safe, controlled enviornment and will not share the key. The classrooms are well-structured and fun and the teachers are caring and supportive
