Bushido Kenkyukai dojo is a Japanese/Okinawan Martial and Cultural Arts study center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Various classes and periodic workshops are taught throughout the year. 2020 has been a bumpy year with open & close, in person & online. We are working with the NM Health Orders best we can.

Services
Feature on Women's Self Defense, including an interview with our instructor and video of our Women's Self Defense Class. Bushido Kenkyukai Karate & Taiko students were pictured as part of our participation (Taiko & Origami) in the Balloon Museums event "Children of War, Voices of Peace: Japanese and American Perspectives".
Karate means "empty hand" in Japanese. As its name implies, it is a style of martial art that uses uses weaponless techniques such as punching and kicking. The 7 virtues of Bushido are expected to be followed at all times: Discipline, Respect, Courage, Honor, Integrity, Loyalty, and Benevolence. We follow a traditional structure with Japanese Dojo Etiquette, the Sempai - Kohai relationship, and formal rank testing.
Self-defense is not about becoming a violent person or hurting people, it is about applying simple, efficient and straighforward techniques for defending yourself in dangerous situations such as muggings, carjackings, home invasions and more. A. L. Gallegos, a certified Self Defense Instructor, also offers self-defense classes specifically designed for women.
Our taiko group is available for performances for a small stipend to cover equipment transporting and other incidental expenses. Weekends are best. During the week some evenings are available and some week days are possible but more difficult. Please contact us early to discuss your event as dates fill up fast.
Bushido Kenkyukai Japanese Martial & Cultural Arts Center from time to time offers workshops with professional Taiko players, Martial Artist, Language Instructors, Cultural demonstrators, and field trips to special cultural events/lectures. Taiko, Karate, and other cultural activities are a great opportunity for youth to learn, grow and become more well-rounded and better citizens in our community.
