Karate International
Karate International is an organization of 3 martial arts schools in the Wake County area of North Carolina. We have grown from one original location in Raleigh in 1974 to our 3 locations covering the entire county. Rob and Kathy Olevsky lead the organization with the support of over 70 Black Belts and Instructors in the community.

Our students have described us as family oriented and attentive to all our students. We try very hard to treat each student as an individual and our mission is to help them all achieve their goals. We offer well rounded martial arts training for life.
Services
Karate International of West Raleigh is located at 9101 Leesville Rd, just 1 mile off of I-540 in the Pinecrest Pointe Shopping Center at the intersection of Fairbanks and Leesville. Once in the shopping center, you will find us in between Manchester's Grill and Shish Kabob.

Our student population is quite diverse with residents from Harrington Grove, Brier Creek, Springdale, Raleigh, Durham, Creedmoor, Graham, Wake Forest, Wendell, and Youngsville. The dojo is 2,771 square feet and has 2 full bathrooms. Our training floor, approximately 1,500 square feet, is designed to provide a safe environment for all students: the young and the young at heart.
Sanshinkai Karate was developed by Jan Wellendorf, a martial arts instructor, author, business manager, tournament competitor and 10th Degree Black Belt. He began his martial arts study in 1963. He studied Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and Okinawan Karate. He is the retired president of the Karate International organization.
Curriculum - We teach this class with Karate techniques; however we focus on child development skills that will enable him/her to move into our regular karate curriculum when he/she is 5 to 6 years old. At 3.5 to 5 years old, the children need to focus more on learning their right from their left, their basic gross motor skills and their attention span.
Curriculum - We teach an age specific curriculum and also teach by experience level. We work hard to keep a good ratio of children to instructors, as we realize the importance of individual attention. The amount of children in the class varies greatly because we don't make the parents choose a particular class.
Martial arts classes IDEAL For teens are preparing to enter an adult world and to deal with adult problems. Teens are finding what they need in our Teen Karate Classes. We purposely created a special place for our teens. They do not belong in the Children's Classes. We actually have to teach our teens a whole different skill set than the children.
