Benefit Counseling Associates was born in 1983 to serve the needs of small businesses and their owners in Ulster and the surrounding counties of New York State. The owner, DianaLou Wolff, came on board in 1986 and became a partner in 2000, and bought the firm in 2009. Although you are welcome to visit our new home on the 2nd floor of 70 Maiden Lane in Uptown Kingston, we are happy to come to your office at your convenience.
At a time in life when one would expect things to become more simple - Medicare happens. If you are over the age of 65 and have worked more than 40 quarters or have been on Social Security Disability for 2 years you are eligible for Medicare. If one qualifies, enrollment in Medicare part A is automatic many people mistakenly believe that if they work they need not enroll in Medicare part B - that could not be further from the truth.
Research shows that the majority of small businesses want to offer health insurance to their employees yet feel it's very complicated and expensive. At Benefit Counseling Associates we are dedicated to the small businesses we work with and consider ourselves part of their workforce. We are a small business like them and know the difficulties of trying to do it all.
Entrepreneurs and Sole Proprietorships have always been the backbone of our country but have not had the easiest time obtaining health coverage. It can be purchased, however the options are limited and the rates higher than that of larger businesses. This is an area we can be of assistance.

We help to determine if the business actually falls into the definition of "sole proprietor" and if so we perform the same due diligence we would for a small business - shopping the market, comparing available plans and helping to enroll them.Sole proprietors will, at that time, have to obtain their coverage through the "Individual Marketplace" and we can continue to serve as guide and adviser.
