The Orthodox Christian Counseling Institute (OCCI) is a professional network of Orthodox psychologists, counselors, and marriage and family therapists. It was founded in 2004 by Dr. Ary Christofidis as a referral resource in the Chicago metropolitan area, including Northwest Indiana. As Orthodox therapists, we offer a unique alternative to a purely psychological understanding of human problems.

We believe that the fullness of healing can be found through the worship, sacraments, and practices of the Orthodox Christian Church. Through psychotherapy we are committed to working with clients to resolve crises, reduce symptoms of common mental health problems, foster new coping and relationship skills, and nurture personal growth using psychological principles within the context of the Orthodox faith.
Services
OCCI members offer seminars, lectures and retreats on a variety of topics. Presentations are grounded in the Orthodox Christian faith, while also informed by current psychological theory and practice. Presentations are often interactive with the audience by involving participants in discussions, individual exercises, and small group breakouts.
Dr. Christofidis is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. He sees people who are struggling with depression, anxiety, marital conflict, and family discord. Dr. Christofidis also treats youth who are struggling with emotional and family issues and clients who are dealing with a diagnosis of cancer, assisting them with the emotional challenges that accompany the disease.
Our mission is to provide outpatient mental health services within the context of the Orthodox Christian faith. Our goal is to establish OCCI as a non-profit organization. We hope to expand our services to include group therapy, psychological testing, and psychiatry. Our prayers and dreams are to open doors to a free standing Orthodox Christian Counseling Center in the near future.
