We founded Van Binh Self Defense Academy with one goal in mind: giving our students the best, most rewarding learning experience. Van Binh Self Defense Academy is located in Houston, Texas and reflects the vibrant energy of the area. Our passionate and skilled team members are here to help students achieve their goals.
Van Binh Self Defense Academy was founded by Pioneer Grand Master Van Binh shortly after he arrived in Houston from Vietnam in 1975. Grand Master Van Binh was an Olympic Competitor in Judo in his youth and was the first ITF Grand Master in the United States. Our Academy teaches ITF Taekwon-Do, the traditional style, but in a modern way.
In a culture that seems to glorify violence in everything from music to video games and television shows, the idea of enrolling your child in martial arts training classes doesn't always seem like a good one. While martial arts-centered action films seem to be filled to the brim with violent behavior and gory injuries, you may be surprised to learn that martial arts' training is actually very beneficial to kids.
Whenever we hear the words "Martial Arts", we automatically think it's more of a man's sport because we assume it's violent, not feminine, and women shouldn't be doing that sort of thing. Well, actually martial art has become more popular with Taekwon-Do, Judo and Aikido ranking some of the best martial arts for women.
Whenever men and martial arts are mentioned, one automatically thinks of men doing kicks, punches, and even wrestling. But did you know that there are numerous health benefits of martial arts for men other than the being able to deliver powerful kicks and punches? Keeping reading to learn many other positive aspects from martial arts training that will make you a stronger, better person.

I've been a student of Grand Master Van Binh for 2 years at this point and have both my 10 year old son and wife joining me. This is an excellent place to learn for adults and children who want a safe and comfortable family feel. Everyone is very friendly and make every effort to include older and younger students alike. About the martial art, I like that Grand Master teaches much more than Taekwon Do. They also teach Aikido and Judo. The mixture of these styles makes for very interesting experience since you are finding many ways to solve the same problems or attacks. You are not simply taught

This is a great place to learn. My family and I have been at the school for a couple of years and we have one red belt and two blue belts. We enjoy the choice we have to learn fast or slow depending on our schedules. My youngest is 10, but he started when he was 7. And this summer my twins will join at age 6.

I went to Van Binh Self Defense Academy for years when I lived in Houston. It definitely has a family like atmosphere. The instruction was fantastic and Van Binh certainly has experience and the skill which provides a quality training. Unfortunately, my job necessitated that I move away from Houston but for anyone considering training that lives in Houston, I can't recommend this school enough. Van Binh will find a way to help you learn martial arts irrespective of age or ability. And the instructors that work for him, I thought, were top notch. This school (and Van Binh) is one of the reasons
