The history of the ninja is shrouded in mystery and there are things about ninja history that will just never be clarified 100 percent. The purpose of studying history to modern day practitioners of ninpo is not to prove scholarly debates, but rather to gain a better understanding of the art of ninpo.

So, not every point of our history must be proven as absolute fact, and even the 'less accurate' points of the history of the ninja may still be a great deal of value in understanding various aspects of the age of the ninja and the samurai. The history of the samurai is better known because they controlled the writing down of history.

There has been a rising trend over the past decade for people who practice MMA or are fans of UFC-style competitions to criticize the Bujinkan's techniques and training methods. The information on the website relates to the Bujinkan Kocho Dojo only. Other Bujinkan dojo may have different views.

The UFC-style fights are impressive to those who are new to martial arts, or have not had the benefit of training in the battlefield martial arts of Japan, but this is really a case of comparing apples and oranges. You should understand the difference between sport contests between strong-men who are engaging in a contest, struggling to have a fair competition that will entertain the audience.
We believe that the techniques of the Bujinkan arts are the most effective techniques for real combat situations, but it is also the training methods which produce high level skills. In the beginning stages of training at the Kocho Dojo the students emphasize unarmed combat skills. The method of training has a different emphasis than most other martial arts.
First of all, our training is not like a martial arts film. We are not located on some secret base deep in the woods or on top of a mountain, and we do not train in a castle, fort, or ancient temple. We train in a park and work on the techniques like real people, not super heroes. We don't wear hoods and ninja aren't jumping out of trees to attack with throwing stars or detonating bombs and disappearing in clouds of smoke.
What kind of martial art is taught in the Bujinkan Kocho Dojo? Some people claim that the 'ninja arts' of the Bujinkan are not real, but were made up by the previous grandmaster Takamatsu sensei. Is there any validity to this claim? What is the difference between what the Bujinkan Kocho Dojo teaches and Karate or Taekwondo?
The Bujinkan Kocho Dojo is not some overly commercialized karate or Taekwondo 'business', where people just walk into a studio like a customer and order some lessons. The Kocho Dojo is run similar to the manner of a traditional Japanese dojo, although the atmosphere is not excessively rigid like in some other Japanese styles.

The place itself is ok but this organization that they call bujinkan is a joke. They taking an art that is close to 3000 years old and marketed in a Hollywood's Halloween custom. Maybe some things in life need to stay a secret and not paraded around this way. This is all thanks to the leader, Hatsumi masaki.

Kocho dojo provides training in a combat systems that predates the modern martial arts. The philosophy and techniques completely differ from anything that is available today. The system was created and designed for warfare rather than sparing and competing. Unlike modern martial arts, the system in kocho dojo may take decades of training before the practitioner can apply it successfully to what it was created for. It relies heavily on self development through self discipline. Rather than conforming to media's fictitious stories to make profit, kocho dojo offers a honest and less glamorous insights

Outdoor dojo with a real feeling for honoring ancient martial art traditions. Interactive training via partner system enables students to perform in practical self-defense situations. Respectful and self-disciplined instuctor gives assignments then allows students to practice while giving feedback periodically.
