For over 45 years The Machado Brothers have been dedicated to the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Nephews to the founder of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, late master Carlos Gracie Sr., the Machado brothers learned from an early age the martial art that eventually exploded all over the world. The Machado's had the honor to learn from the founder late Carlos Gracie Sr. and several of their cousins from the Gracie family.

Not only is this a Roger Machdo school, but it's a school where Roger Machdo is actually teaching the classes. It's amazing to actually learn directly from a Brazilian jiu jitsu legend and coral belt.
Master Machado's teaching style is very detailed oriented, and he really pays close attention to everyone's safety, as well. Everyone at the school is friendly and helpful, and it's been the best learning experience I've had.

I highly recommend Master Roger Machado and Machado Jiu Jitsu! I am new to Brazilian jiu jitsu and Master Machado has made the experience challenging but very fun and non-intimidating! He is very patient and clearly loves teaching. I am confident that Master Machado is among the best jiu jitsu teachers for every level of practitioner. I look forward to continue training with him.

I've been coming to this school for over 10 years, and had been practicing martial arts including Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for 10 years before that. I started training with Roger Machado about five years ago. I had known about the school for a long time but procrastination got in the way and I passed by for years without going in. I regret not joining years earlier. Roger Machado is an excellent instructor and fosters a great environment at his school. The other students are extremely friendly and helpful. I never felt like I was fresh meat for the more experienced students when I first started. An excellent place to train for both beginners and more advanced students.

Professor is a master with the kids. So kind and genuine his teachings really inspire the kids to get down and learn. They all get along, have fun and I can see them gaining technical skills so young. My son acts like he doesn't want to go sometimes but when he gets there he's stoked and when class is over he's a different kid. Can't wait for our girl to start next week. Thank professor!

I started training BJJ in 1995 with Rickson Gracie and bounced around different schools until I found my home with the Machado brothers in 1996. I ultimately earned my black belt from Roger Machado in 2007. The positive environment, attention to detail, and level of expertise at this academy is a testament to the high character of Roger Machado. He is patient, insightful, and fully invested in the growth of his students both on and off the mat.

Roger Machado is an excellent professor of jiu jitsu, whether the student is a child, someone wishing to compete, or a person studying the art. His students are friendly and supportive, but strong egos do not survive. I am glad to have found this dojo, and encourage anyone interested in learning a practical martial art combined with invigorating physical exercise to take Professor Machado up on his offer of a free lesson.

Hands down, the best institution to learn BJJ from a beginner's point of view. I have been going to Professor Machado since June 2016 and I learned so much already.
With all the other BJJ dojos, what sets them apart? Their philosophy on how BJJ should be taught, and also the smallness of the classes. The philosophy isn't to strong arm everyone, but to learn the techniques so they become muscle memory. Other dojos are regularly taught by brown belts and such. Not here (unless he is out of town for a seminar with his bros,etc). You get the real deal, Professor Machado and a black belt

A student invited me to an open mat here about a year ago. It was was amazing. It reminded me of the 'Tough' gym in Rocky 3. Their lowest ranking white belts were suuuper knowledgeable at BJJ and had crazy endurance. Also the place has 4 walls and mats. All you need. Pure Jiu jitsu. If I wasnt GB i would be Machado. Just cuz of this school. Oss!

Having practiced full contact karate for over a decade in my youth, I was instilled with the values of honor, loyalty and respect in martial practice early on. Professor Machado runs an amazing school.
I recently joined his school, only a little over a month ago. I have trained jiujitsu before for a number of years, but had been roughly 8 or so years since I was actively training. I was partly nervous of injury, but also nervous of the type of people who might train there. I have been to schools where everyone is so aggressive, injuries are common and the energy is just not conducive for how I like to learn (these types of schools certainly are important for a lot of folks, just not my preference).
I was reassured by Professor Machado that this school

I absolutely loved training here at this dojo. I hadn't trained in a while, so my moves were kinda rusty, but the Teacher Machado was very caring and the other students weren't too rough. The warm up was pretty intense too! I loved it! I definitely felt it the next morning, and it was very nice! Everyone is super friendly and whenever I don't understand something, Teacher Machado makes sure to break it down for me.
I definitely recommend this to everyone and anyone of all ages!

Where to start? Roger and the RCJ school saved my life. When I walked in I was a very scared and angry mess of a man! I was over 230 pounds and ready to explode in every scene of the word. My relationships were as stressed as I was. It was then I had decided to try something that was completely opposite of any path I had ever considered. I did my research and decided to call and make that leap. When I came in and met Roger and took my first class I was so surprised and happy about just how nice and individual the instruction was. No ego just truth and impeccable knowledge taught in the kindest

This dojo has a wonderfully serene vibe and Teacher Machado seems incredibly nice and balanced. My five year old just started classes, but he loves it here. Hopefully I'll be able to start training as well in a month. If you're gonna train, train with the best, and Roger Machado is a legend in the art of Brazilian Ju-Jitsu.

Coming from the highly-ranked Gracie Jiu Jitsu academy as a Blue Belt, I needed somewhere closer to my home. I looked past the many Gracie Barra schools in my area because I had heard about their teaching styles. To my surprise, Roger Machado Jiu Jitsu was only a mile away from my house. Shoot, I can walk there rather than driving 45 minutes to Torrance, which don't get me wrong, is worth it. However school schedule has forced me to relocate. Anyways, the review.
