East Valley Martial Arts
Our instructors are very experienced and patient. They enjoy sharing their knowledge. Our dojo provides a warm, friendly, safe atmosphere where you will feel welcome and comfortable. East Valley Martial Arts karate students study the "fist-way" of the Okinawan people. Karate originated on the island of Okinawa (now part of Japan) when it was an independent country.

This small territory of farmers and fishermen developed Karate (with influences from China) to protect their families, themselves, and their belongings. The techniques have been passed down from teacher to student for hundreds of years. They were gifted to us, and now we offer our students the opportunity to become part of the tradition.
Services
Before we go any further, we will address the correct pronunciation of the name of our art and some brief history. The word Ryukyu is pronounced as "roo-queue" (think of kangaroos standing in a row!) and is the historical name of the chain of islands which were annexed by the Satsuma clan of Japan, and of which Okinawa is the largest island.
East Valley Martial Arts classes take place in the vicinity of Gilbert Road and Baseline Road, on the border of Mesa and Gilbert, Arizona. We meet in convenient locations near the 60 freeway. We have a wide variety of portable equipment suitable for on-location training. These include full-size, focus and hand-held targets, and padded safety weapons, among other things.
6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Mixed, All Ranks (age 6 & up) (Weapons on the 1st and 3rd Thurs. of each month, for age 8 and up, purple belt and up, with instructor approval.) Discounted price for our active karate students: $30/half-hour lesson or $100/package of four lessons. Regular price for students who are not actively registered in one of our karate programs: $60/half-hour or $100/hour-long lesson.
East Valley Martial Arts has a terrific, well developed Little Dragons program. Our youngest students are three, four and five years old. In Little Dragons we focus on listening, paying attention and following directions. Students are taught responsibility, and challenged to do their best with plenty of positive encouragement.
Easy Valley Martial Arts has a strong Kids Program designed for six-through-12-year-olds. Kids learn commitment, confidence and hard work while striving for their goals with the help of their teachers. Respect, discipline and responsibility are integral parts of the Kids Program, and the active lessons are woven with fun.

It was quite interesting reading the review of the person that added religion into the description of the school. My son trained there probably 15 years ago owned by another person as the current owners were training and achieved their black belts. All I can say about them was is that they were genuinely nice people and I did not get that feeling whatsoever. But that was a long time ago. My son.was Taught by another gentleman that was the owner at the time. We had some differences due to what seem to be some hypocrisies. That is why only the two stars. I don’t know now where it stands now. Actually

We have been coming the East Valley Martial Arts since August 2016 with our three year old. The Little Dragon class taught by Jenifer- Renshi
is awesome. Our little one now four has learned to follow directions, can count to 20 in Japanese, he can recite and understand the Dojo Kun. Renshi has helped and guided him by building up his confidence, rewarding a good job, and be patient in her explanation of new techniques. She teaches her class with a "you can do it attitude". She makes learning fun for the kids while still teaching the basics of karate.

Jenifer teaches and lives by her dojo's values. She is seriously focused on becoming a positive influence on her students, whether young or older. She strives to especially inspire youthful members to become more aware of their own self-care abilities, in order to lead the life they dare to dream, and can aspire to, by applying the dojo's values and teachings in their lives.

I used to train at this dojo.
I LOVED training there so it is especially heartbreaking for me to give this review.
I had hard times and good times. I was ALWAYS honest and followed the guiding principals to their core. My actions and behavior earned me an invitation to the black belt club after a hard worked for purple belt from 2 years of blood, sweat, and tears.
I needed to take time off for physical issues for about 2 months the early part of this year.
When I returned I was asked to re-pay a registration fee of 75$ and a month of training ( 120$). I paid this fee.

At first we liked this school. .but after 2 years of very high dues for what is offered. .it is a business after all.. and having to pay for each little thing..like when you purchase a pair of Nunchaku, they won't give then to you..unless you pay for a re-stringing fee...extra money for this...extra cash for that... special red pants for black belt club..which they make you think is a requirement if they offer you the chance. .. all of a sudden they bring up our religion. .which while alternative.. is protected constitutionality. ..and has nothig to do with martial arts. ..and no nothing to

The art is traditional, the technique is effective, and the people are real. The atmosphere and the people are inviting and it shows - there are 6 year olds and 60 year olds on the floor at the same time some nights! Self defense, weaponry, and character are all apart of the training. There's no one single reason I've been a student here for over 13 years, but rather many that in total make EVMA such a great experience... Bushido!!
