The Renshinkan is a Jiyushinkai dojo in Mesa, Arizona. We teach both classical and modern Japanese martial arts using modern educational methods. These arts include Jiyushin-ryu AikiBudo-which comprises a variety of throws, joint locks, chokes, strikes, kicks, groundwork, and weaponry-and Shinto Muso-ryu Jo, said to be the oldest Japanese style of using a short staff in combat.
The word renshin holds particular significance to us, not only as a reminder of where we come from, but also of what we are working toward. As repeatedly pounding heated iron refines and tempers it, so is a student refined and tempered through repeated proper training. Ultimately, the goal is for the student to become their own anvil, hammer, and fire.
We teach classical and modern Japanese martial arts. Anyone can learn to do what we do within the limits of their own physical capabilities. Gender, age, fitness level, and martial arts experience are unimportant. We have had students start from age 5 to 50+. Whether your goal is to learn self defense, increase your physical activity, or to do something new and challenging, we think you'll find plenty to keep you on your toes here.
One of the arts teach and practice at the Renshinkan is Jiyushin-ryu Aikibudo. Our Aikibudo is a synthesis of the teachings of Kano Jigoro, Ueshiba Morihei, and Tomiki Kenji as handed down to us by our teacher C. E. Clark. Jiyushin-ryu Aikibudo comprises bio-mechanically efficient techniques that work by undermining an opponent's posture and redirecting the momentum of attacks.
Shinto Muso-ryu Jodo is a 400 year old civilian/police martial art and is said to be the oldest style for using a stick (jo) in combat in Japan.

Founded in the early 17th century by Muso Gonnosuke Katsuyoshi, an exponent of Tenshinsho-den Katori Shinto-ryu, the jo is a staff-like weapon which is thinner and shorter than a bo (50 1/4" x 7/8") which allows for more rapid manipulation and incorporates elements of the bo, ken and yari (staff, sword and spear). There are a total of 64 techniques in Shinto Muso-ryu Jodo divided into a number of sets, each set having it's own characteristics.

Among the best dojo for aikibudo in AZ or the USA in my experience. I met the founder of Jiyushin-ryu Aikibudo (CE Clark) in 2005 after years of online correspondence and discussion and recognized immediately that, ever 10 years of practicing Aikikai Aikido through numerous senior teachers in the US and from Japan, this form of aikido practice was the one for me.

This dojo started as the Jiyushinkan (the main hombu or home dojo of the organization) under CE Clark and Aaron Clark. When the leaders of the organization relocated to Seattle (along with the Jiyushinkan name), the former dojo's
