Each member of our staff is committed to the belief that we are here to assist in the grieving process by offering quality service in a timely, compassionate and cost-effective manner. While families are different, each and every family member deserves the commitment of respect from the staff of Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Homes.

The Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Homes have been vital, caregiving members of the Lake County communities for over 80 years. The Mulqueeny Funeral Home was founded in 1922 by William Mulqueeny, and the Spear Funeral Home was founded in 1932 by John L. Spear. In 1975, the two firms merged to offer two convenient locations to better serve Fair Harbor and Painesville, Ohio families.
Services
We provide the following basic funeral-related services for all the families we serve: Arrange for transfer of deceased from the place of death and prepare the deceased in accordance with the family wishes, obtain a signed death certificate from the attending doctor, gather vital statistics and personal information required to complete the death certificate and prepare death notices and obituaries, notify the Social Security Administration, coordinate arrangements with churches, clergy, cemetery, crematory, florists and newspapers, and file the death certificate with the local registrar.
Jay Mulqueeny is a lifetime resident of Painesville having been born and raised here. He has been practicing as a Funeral Director since completing his degree in Mortuary Science at the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1982. Previous to his college studies, Jay graduated from the Lake Catholic High School as well as Lakeland Community College.
When it comes to your final arrangements, shouldn't you make the decisions? The arrangements you make will reflect your exact wishes and desires. Pre-arranging your own service will help to ease the burden of your loved ones. It will also alleviate any questions, problems or differences that can occur among family members.
Caskets are used when families request viewing of the deceased. They come in a wide variety of styles and colors. Primarily, caskets are made of two types of material, wood or metal. We offer each in an affordable price range for all families. If you are interested in browsing theMatthews Aurora Casket Company's line of caskets, please visit their website.
The basic Military Funeral Honors (MFH) ceremony consists of the folding and presentation of the United States flag to the veterans' family and the playing of Taps. The ceremony is performed by a funeral honors detail consisting of at least two members of the Armed Forces. The Funeral Honors rendered to you or your veteran will be determined by the status of the veteran.

Funeral director rude and impatient after service. Rushing people, even the handicapped. Making unnecessary comments loud enough for family to hear. Several family members have had their services here and we have never experienced this type of disrespect.

They were very rude to my father who wanted to say his last good bye to his brother. My father can’t walk good so he needs help and they were saying things like this kind of stuff just slows thing down in front of his family like we could not hear them! This was his brother he should have gotten time to say a proper goodbye!

I wouldn’t take my dog there for funeral services. No respect to the family. Heard the staff making rude comments after my handicapped grandfather (who can barley walk) wanted to walk up to give his last good byes to his brother. They pushed him through like he didn’t even know the deceased. Completely uncalled for.

Three years after my Aunt was buried Jay took time with me on the phone to help me find some missing information that I needed from her funeral. Very kind.
