He is a 1986 graduate of Morgan High School, a 1991 graduate of the Ohio State University, and a 1995 graduate of the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science.

The Matheney family purchased the Tatman (formerly Fisher) Funeral Home in McConnelsville in 1994. In 1999, Paul Lane remodeling the beautiful building, adding a room in keeping with the existing architectural structure. The Matheney Funeral Home in McConnelsville offers and provides a full range of funeral services and caters to all faiths.
