At Metzger Community Preschool, we work cooperatively with our teacher, parent volunteers and community to enrich the lives and development of our students. Our school is one of the oldest operating cooperative preschools in the Portland metropolitan area. We attribute our longevity to the commitment of our community, families and fantastic teacher.
We offer an interactive classroom where children can self-guide their learning at various interest centers and outdoor play area. Our teacher enhances their learning and development through various activities, cooking projects, science projects, daily circle times, etc. Registration is now open for the 2021-2022 school year!

Services
Our mission is to provide, with parent participation, a developmentally appropriate learning experience through play, creativity and discovery. As a cooperative, Metzger Community Preschool emphasizes family involvement. The school is operated by a professional teacher with parents as assistant teachers.
We are excited to welcome Paula Robertson to Metzger Community Preschool! Teacher Paula has a passion for working with young children, and it shows in the warm, inviting school environment she creates. She believes that the first years of school are vitally important because they lay the groundwork for creating life-long learners.
This class fosters socialization and is often a child's first introduction to school and routines. We learn to negotiate with our friends while enhancing our verbal communication. We work on self help skills with emergent independence. The full spectrum of interest centers are open for exploration including science, sensory experiences, art, and fine motor.
This class learns through direct interactive experiences based on our children's characteristics. They learn extraordinary amounts through play and exploration. They develop cognitive concepts such as solving problems, learning colors, numbers, sizes & shapes. They have the ability to enhance their memory skills as well as their attention span.
Tuition is due on the first of the month. If not paid, by the tenth of the month, a $20 late fee will be assessed. Fees and tuition are subject to evaluation by the board and Metzger Community Preschool reserves the right to increase rates in subsequent years. We do offer a 5% TUITION ONLY DISCOUNT for families wanting to pay for the full school year in advance.

My daughter has thrived at Metzger Community Preschool. I enjoy the cooperative preschool atmosphere, where parents and teacher work together to build community and a strong foundation for a child's future. If you are a parent looking to take an active role in your child's first years of education, look into a cooperative preschool.
As a parent of a co-op you participate by volunteering 2-3 times/month in the classroom, hold a board or committee position and help out with Work Parties like cleaning, fundraising, events, etc. There are also opportunities for parents to learn how to be an effective

I am BEYOND happy with our choice to attend Metzger Preschool! I can not say enough good about this school. I would recommend it to any parent who can and wants to be an active part of their child's early learning experience!
Our story---I started my oldest child at another preschool when he was 3 years old, we were looking for him to gain some independence and social skills. It was a good first experience, but in my heart I felt it was lacking that communication and sense of community I was searching for. I felt I wanted to be more hands on and a part of what my child was doing, so I began the

We LOVE Teacher Mary and Metzger Preschool. There are so many things to love: the community atmosphere created by being part of a co-op (YES, you have to work, but you also get to see exactly what goes on in your child's classroom -- a HUGE perk); it's affordable; and Teacher Mary knows what she's doing. She knows how to develop the WHOLE child. My daughter loved Metzger and we would have kept all of our kids there if we could have (new jobs didn't allow for all of the volunteer time)!

Couldn't be more pleased with this preschool. Their philosophy is learning through play. In fact, the first hour of each day is play time- and they learn the important social skills needed for elementary school. They have choices during that first hour- art, puzzles, playdough, reading, games, dress up or cooking, and in the famed rainbow room there are blocks, legos, chalkboard and mats for building forts. Teacher Mary is superb- keeps the kids excited and plugged in, guides them when needed, steps back and lets them play and become independent and more self confident little beings. This school
