We create authentic pizzeria pizza made from the freshest ingredients: basil, olive oil, ripe tomatoes & fresh mozzarella. Our pasta and sauces are homemade, with recipes passed down from generation to generation.

Ok what's going on DiMatteos we tried a few more attempts thinking it's a bad day..? The food used to be excellent. I'm sorry, but we realize restaurants still suffering but let bring back the precovid quality...Our meals have not tasted the same or consistently such as your delicious Manhatten Calamari it used to be crispy & breaded and tender not like rubber bands!

The five stars aren't for the food, the service or the bathrooms- it's a cumulative rating.
Since the late 70's it's been the best slice in new haven county. They haven't changed their neighborhood feel, they haven't gone fancy in their menu, and they've stayed in the plaza even after that crazy fire years back
They've stayed the same and they've stuck with Hamden even after the rest of dixwell has become out own slice of Beirut.
Their prices have changed only because , well, they need to pay their people. Bit the increase has not been punitive nor extreme.
They still make parmesan dishes,

Visiting from San Diego, CA we went to grab a few slices of pizza. The pizza itself is 5 stars but the staff I give 3. We ordered at the counter from a woman who barely even looked at us. 3 cheese slices, 1 pepperoni and a small Coke. We got our food in a to go box but my husband was hungry right then and wanted to have 1 slice really quick. We sat down at a large table because all the ither tables were taken and we wanted to eat one slice quickly before heading out to do some shopping. A woman approached us and in a not so friendly tone notified us that the table we were sitting at was reserved

Ordered a Large 1/2 cheese/pepperoni pizza. They didnt have Wings either so offered chicken tenders and fries which I reluctantly agreed to. This for a whopping $33.
Representative of Connecticut pizza in general, this is barely edible. It reminds me of mall pizza. The chicken tenders was extremely chewy. I threw out more than 50% of the food.
Overpriced, junk food. 1 star. Wouldnt recommend.

They are always late in having food ready for pickup. Today, I waited an hour for four pizzas and they got the order wrong. Not dependable. Food is good, but service sucks and they don't own their mistakes. Was provided excuses that they had people stop in and had 30 orders. What good is calling ahead if the restaurant can meet their commitments!!!

I am 40 yrs old and I have been coming to this restaurant since I was about 5 yrs old. The food is great and Everytime I come it brings me back to the good ole times of my childhood. I remember as a child… waiting for the waitress to bring out that good meat lovers pizza to the table and it always comes out hot but you couldn't wait you would be so ready to dig in. well nothing has changed still eat the whole slice leave no crust behind!!! Love DiMatteo's the best pizza!!
