The Duck Pond is a small, full-day preschool in the Glenview district of Oakland, where children ages 2 through 6 years old can explore, play, discover and learn. We maintain a 9:1 and often a 6:1 child-to-adult ratio and are licensed for twenty-five children. Inspired by Reggio Emilia, we use a child-led, project-based approach.
We integrate art, language arts, science, mathematics and music into our daily routines. We view children as capable, intelligent beings worthy of respect. We focus on meeting the physical and emotional needs of each child on an individual basis. We feel that play is the most valuable vehicle for learning.

Services
Teachers use a more hands-on style with our toddlers, whether it is concerning guidance and redirection, comfort, or assistance with skills. The Ducklings' teachers take care of all their needs, including diapering, napping, and potty training. The Ducklings have a short circle time in the morning, involving board books, music and movement.

If the wonder, joy and exuberance of childhood could be captured in a place, that place for us is Duck Pond. It's a warm, caring and loving environment that we've found to be a perfect balance of structure and play. We liked the teachers' focus on the social and emotional development of the children, which really comes through in the school environment and empathy kids show for each other.
