On behalf of the teachers and office staff we want to welcome you to the 2021-2022 school year. We are excited and happy to be returning and seeing your wonderful children. I am Ann Rose Gavey, the founder and owner of Rising Star Montessori School which has been in Alameda since 1982. I have been in the background many years, supporting our staff.
In addition to being the founder and owner I have been a Montessori Consultant and Staff Trainer for the past 25 years. I hold a Master's Degree in Education from Notre Dame de Namur University and Montessori certifications in Infant Toddler, Early Childhood, and Elementary levels. I have consulted at schools in southern California, Alabama, and Taiwan as well as schools in the Bay Area.

Services
The Montessori Method of teaching aims to educate the whole child, ultimately preparing them to be self-directed life long learners and engaged global citizens. To that end, our school philosophy on assessment and accountability is based on consistent communication and sharing of goals between parents and teachers.
Enrollment for new students begins in February. If you are interested in enrolling your child for the 2019/2020 school year, please contact Sharon Djafaripour at 510-865-4536 to inquire about availability. In January and February we host open houses for prospective families at both the Cottage and High Street campuses.
Your child is welcome to attend any portion thereof, but there will be no cost adjustment. Potty trained children only at both campuses At this point, we are not accepting children who are not fully potty trained due to the social distancing requirement. We can not provide this additional service at this time and we do not know when we will be able to offer this service again.
Rising Star's Pre-K program has been carefully designed to meet the developmental needs of the young child. The classes have a ratio of 1 adult to 9 children. The teacher becomes the link between the enriched learning didactics and what the child experiences, discovers and understands. Children are provided with opportunities to learn independence while developing their cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills.
Rising Star Montessori School's Kindergarten Program is a five full-day program, Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Montessori curriculum follows the child. Following the child is one place where Montessori differs considerably from traditional education.
Rather than following a set simultaneous sequential curriculum, where every child learns the same things every day regardless of their knowledge or aptitude, a more flexible approach is taken. Each child is assessed and begins within the continuum of the ages 3-6 curriculum meaning they are taught at the level they are at for each curriculum area.

Rising Star has been a great fit for our daughter and our family. Our child has done one year of preschool there and has recently started kindergarten at Rising Star High Street Campus. She is a very sensitive child and has done extremely well in their loving, structured, and supportive environment. She has excelled in all areas of learning. We are truly grateful to this organization for her wonderful experience.
