I had a strange experience at Bona Terra. When I made my appointment, I asked for a stylist who was good with curly hair and someone who was not a novice. I arrived and met my stylist, and the first thing she asked me was, "Do you ever wear your hair straight?". I said, "No." "Oh," she said, "Do you like your hair straight?" I said, "No." So after she gives me a shampoo she starts straightening my hair with a brush and a blow dryer. I thought that was a bit odd, but I have had my hair cut by novices before who needed my hair to be straight in order

I am obsessed with Bona Terra Salon and beauty wizard Dela. I moved from San Francisco in 2020 and have been looking for a salon and stylist in KC that has the expertise, love, and color-styling skills like Dela. I also love her colleagues and the community vibe of this understated elegance that is Bona Terra Salon. Mgmt take note - Dela is a star and this review is purely organic. Highly recommend all of the staff at this location and am now never going anywhere else (see pic for more information).

I was in the shop for the first time last week for a service. My stylist Sydney was helpful and did a great job. Im giving Bona Terra 3 stars for the decor and atmosphere. They have a “white” couch in their lobby that is very old and noticeably dirty. It looks like they got their lobby furniture from your grandmothers garage sale. For what i paid, the Ambience should match the price point. It makes me sad because i love aveda and the experience there.

I have a great experience every time I'm here. Tiana has an eye for color and makes my hair look fabulous. Liz has experience with and insight for cutting fine hair to keep it looking full and fun. I'm always greeted with a smile, a cup of tea, and a scalp massage. Definitely a treat. Hair cut, hair color, and lip color by Tiana below.

Today, not only did I leave the salon looking and feeling beautiful but I actually had a great time. It was like the Female version of the barbershop.
Sydney, is an amazing stylist I have thick curly hair and she cut my hair wet.
If you have curly hair and hairdresser can cut your hair while wet you know that the stylist knows what she’s doing.
I came here from Jacksonville, Fl and badly needed a my hair done. I couldn’t have made a better decision then to come to Bona Terra Salon have Sydney cut and style my hair.

First time here today and my stylist was Tiana (sp?).
She was fabulous!! So nice and such a talented hair stylist. I have very thick and tricky hair. She really listened to me and was able to combine what I wanted with what she knew would look best. She spent a lot of time with me too. Her techniques are top notch! Very cute Aveda Salon too. I will be back for sure. :)

I had such a great experience here yesterday. I've never been someone who takes their hair super seriously, I usually just go to the cheap walk in places for a wash and haircut. But I decided to give this salon a try and I'm so glad that I did! I called and was able to get in that day with Sierra. She was chill and easy to talk to, she listened to what I wanted and gave me some insight along the way about what she was doing to make sure everything would work with my hair type. Love the new location, the atmosphere is so much more relaxed, and the sense of design and rest are at work here. I love my haircut from Liz! Amazing woman, listened and heard my concerns about my hair. I gave her license to do whatever she wanted. I know, a scary thing to do to your own hair, but it was well worth it! Best haircut I've had, in, um... probably my whole life! Lol! The best thing? My hubby loves it and can't stop staring at me! He's never done that after getting my locks chopped off. Thanks Liz! While i hated cheating on my regular stylist I was very excited to have a new salon in my neighborhood...I was offered a discount coupon since it was my first visit which was a nice gesture. However, beyond disappointed and dissatisfied after my visit. Very inexperienced (and that's an understatement) stylists for an Aveda salon or any salon for that matter. Super slow and a great deal of product pushing. I was in for a cut, color and highlights. I am new to the area so gave this place a shot. When I arrived a few minutes before my apt time the staff was having a meeting and didn't really acknowledge me. It was awkward. They quickly finished their meeting and then I was taken back by my stylist. My stylist was very nice and polite and asked me for my input however did not listen to it. She gave me water and snacks which was nice. I asked for a trim with layers to be cut below the shoulder but long enough that it won't flip out when it hits my shoulders. I have been going to Bona Terra for about a year. Tiana listens to what I want in a cut and a style, and gives good feedback on what will work for my head and hair type. I've been going to Bona Terra for about a year. I am a longtime Aveda customer and love having access to an Aveda salon in the BKS neighborhood.
Kate is my stylist. My haircuts have been terrific and I've received many compliments on them. Plus there is the added bonus of a scalp, neck and shoulders massage....heavenly.
