Services
Vankirk Funeral Home was founded in 1955 by Alvia S. Vankirk and his wife Helen Cottongim Vankirk. They devoted over 40 years to serving families in the Corbin area, both in ambulance work and funeral service. He attended the University of Kentucky and was a graduate of the Kentucky School of Embalming.
As death can occur at any given moment, we provide 'round the clock', efficient care, in your time of need. We are a complete, full-service funeral home, providing counseling on all aspects and options of funeral services and merchandise. We offer choices to memorialize your loved one that gives you the look and memory you desire.
The staff of Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home all are dedicated to providing the service you need. A short biography accompanies each staff photo. In the fall of 2001, after meeting and visiting with Alvia and Helen Vankirk, Eric and Dawn Grisell and their three children, Erika, Evan, and Kara, moved to Corbin and purchased the Vankirk Funeral Home.
Family and friends getting together to honor a loved one's life is one of the most important steps in the grieving and healing process. You may opt to have a traditional religious or military service, or as more and more people are doing, you can choose to have a non-traditional 'life celebration'.
No matter if a death is sudden, or if it is something that was a long time coming, the loss of a loved one makes us feel emotional and overwhelmed. No amount of preparation can fully prepare you for the loss of a loved one. When you are in a heightened emotional state, even the most basic decisions can seem staggering.

My family has been loyal to Vankirk-Grisell funeral home for generations. During our recent loss of both my parents (within five days of one another), however, Evan Grisell and the entire staff at Vankirk-Grisell went above and beyond. He and his team ensured my parents were given the most beautiful and proper funeral services, as well as assisted my family as we sorted out complex details and issues my family experienced. I can’t thank them enough, and my family members agree.
Thank you Evan, from our hearts with love. May god bless you.

Although this funeral home has supported their reason for leaving out my name and those of my two surviving sisters in my father's obituary by sharing Kentucky's back woods law regarding next of kin... They lack compassion and understanding from his grieving daughters! This is a little snippet of their response when my sister and I questioned the law: "Both your email and your sister's have insulted us first without having factual information. Because of this, we will no longer correspond with either of you and we consider our conversations over. " They're insulted?!?! Wow... way to show grace
