Acorn Counseling PLLC was born out of inspirations from nature and reflections on how small things like the seeds of our beliefs and thoughts can have big impacts in our ever-changing world. Acorns have fed forests and played an important role in human history for centuries; small and full of potential but in the right environment they grow to become mighty oak trees releasing God-ordained potential.

Spirituality is important to many people who inquire about counseling services. I am happy to work with individuals and their relationships from all walks of life who want to make changes, move forward, feel better, and live peacefully with their families their way. I have been a Christian for a long time and found that spiritual resources can be helpful.
Services
I am happy to work with individuals, couples, families and I believe sessions can be helpful in meeting the clients' goals. Initial fee of $140, subsequent individual sessions $140, couple session $140 when billing insurance are due at the beginning of each session.
Gentle reminder for parents and families: there are very limited waiting room resources and no child care facilities. Please plan supervision at all times for your children or family members. We do not accept responsibility for unsupervised family members. It is very important out of respect for the work being done to remain quiet in the suite and leave technology and phone calls outside.
Cash-payer discounts and receipts for filing with your insurance company are available upon request. Please call us to see if your company will provide benefits. I am a provider for the listed insurance companies. All information that you share in therapy is held in confidence and will not knowingly be shared with another medical person without your written consent with legal exceptions as listed in Privacy Practices.
In 1987, psychologist Dr. Francine Shapiro made the chance observation that eye movements can reduce the intensity of disturbing thoughts, under certain conditions. Dr. Shapiro studied this effect scientifically, and in a 1989 issue of the Journal of Traumatic Stress, she reported success using EMDR to treat victims of trauma.

I’ve been attending here for a little over a month (weekly sessions). Susan has been phenomenal. She returned my call in less then 24 hours of me leaving a message. She began to help me address my concerns immediately and gave me great book suggestions to help. I’ve already seen a change in the areas we were focusing on. She is very transparent nonjudgmental and allows me to go at my own pace. She has truly been a blessing to me and my daughter.

After two unreturned phone calls, I guess I will move on. I find it extremely disappointing that a counselor would not have a way of making sure that every phone call and message was responded to. Most people who call for counseling are doing something that is a stretch for them and most will probably not continue to seek help if they are not attended to. I am so sad that this counselor doesn't respond to people who need help.
