Richard Sun is a distinguished and highly respected dentist, that has been serving the dental needs of the DC metro area for over 20 years now. He received his BS in Biology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and continued his studies toward a dental doctorate from the University of Illinois at Chicago Dental School.
A crown (or cap) is a covering that encases the entire tooth surface restoring it to its original shape and size. A crown protects and strengthens tooth structure that cannot be restored with fillings or other types of restorations. Although there are several types of crowns, porcelain (tooth colored crown) are the most popular.
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is placed in the bone and holds an fake tooth to replace a missing tooth. Implants are an alternative to dentures and dental bridges. Implants replace both the teeth and their missing roots whereas a denture only replaces the tooth. An implant looks like a screw and is made of titanium which is biocompatible and not rejected by the body.
A composite (tooth colored) filling is used to repair a tooth that is affected by decay, cracks, fractures, etc. The decayed or affected portion of the tooth will be removed and then filled with a composite filling. There are many types of filling materials available, each with their own advantages and disadvantages.

This review is for Kelly Hu, DDS who practices at the same location under Sun Dental.
After my family had to switch dentists after seeing the same provider for the past 20+ years, we found Sun Dental through a friend. I've been to Dr Hu now for multiple routine dental cleanings as of now.
The office space itself is quite conscious of COVID19 precautions, including plexiglass between front desk staff and patients, they have signage that allows for patrons to wait in their cars and the staff will contact you of when to come inside, they place chairs facing in alternate directions for social

This review is for Dr. Sun's Shady Grove office, which I've only had poor experiences with, not the Reston office, which I've had very good experiences with.
During my recent annual teeth cleaning + exam, the dental hygienist, Chad, pushed for 4 bitewing x-rays to be taken prior to the cleaning and exam, which is against ADA recommendations, and despite my voicing my concerns about my radiation history. He also forgot to prop up and fasten the protective thyroid collar before taking the x-rays.
Dr. Sun was very prompt in following up with me and taking the time out of a busy

I have been a patient of both Dr. Kelly Hu and Dr. Chun Tan - both are great! They are very careful, conscientious, and focused on the patient.
The staff are great too - Bianca and Fereshteh are attentive and work beautifully with the doctors. I have seen many dentists over the past 50 years, and these folks are tops!

There is one called "Doctor" named Chun Tan, who speaks Chinese. It seems she just came from Mainland China, has very bad Chinese doctor attitude. it seems she accused us we didn't follow her recommendation, and she was very upset with us. don't know how she got DDS degree in USA. the worst dentist i met. please avoid her.

Dr. Sun has been my dentist my whole life.
I have nothing but nice things to say about Dr. Sun. He is a professional at his practice and is truly is a friend to my family. My parents & relatives, and now husband have been coming to his office forever. He has a great culture at his office and the staff that work here exude this positive energy in every way. I can't explain how much I trust Dr. Sun with his guidance when it comes to dental work. He is extremely knowledgeable, compassionate and listens

Dr. Sun is the consummate healthcare professional - knowledgeable and engaging, consistently providing great care and guidance to his patients. My Family and close friends have been under Dr. Sun's care for years now. An office visit is always like seeing a trusted old friend - he truly cares and is skilled and thoughtful in his approach. His great work and reputation is well known and many colleagues go to him as well and have enjoyed the quality care and treatments. More recently, Dr. Sun just finished my Invisalign case and the results are fantastic. I truly have a new smile!

If you live in the DC Metropolitan area and are looking for a dentist, you shouldn't look further than Dr. Sun. Dr. Sun has been my dentist for the last 15 years. I'm happy to have found someone that is young, knowledgeable, and understands me as his client.

I have been going to Dr. Sun since 2004 and I keep going back because he not only takes excellent care of my teeth, but he takes the time to talk to you, listen to you, and knows who you are. Whenever I go to get a teeth cleaning, I never feel like I am just a number. On the contrary, I always feel like I'm visiting an old friend when I see Dr. Sun and we catch up twice a year! It is the best to have a dentist that is like a friend and treats you like friend, rather than a dentist who is a stranger.
