Services
UHP Parent Cooperative is a part day, non-profit, parent cooperative school. We are located at 6033 Odana Road, at the intersection of Odana Road and Research Park Boulevard, on Madison's near west side. The Preschool was one of Madison's first childcare centers to be both State licensed (1968) and City certified (1975).
UHP Parent Cooperative provides a high-quality child initiated program, which is stimulating and safe in a developmentally appropriate environment for young children. Our philosophy is to support learning through play in a literate environment. Throughout the program day, we use our time, space, friendships and tools (toys to some) to build a sound framework.
University Houses Preschool (UHP) was founded by University Houses residents in 1968 as a part day parent cooperative preschool, and the preschool continues with this model of operation today. Parental involvement and participation is incorporated into the daily structure and curriculum of UHP. Alongside two certified preschool teachers, at least one parent helper assists in the classroom every day.
Each week the teachers thoughtfully set up 4 to 5 spaces within the classroom for children to engage in art, sensory play, scientific investigation, imaginative play and more. Teachers constantly engage with the children as the children choose what and how they will explore and use these tools and spaces.
We will enroll children who are still in diapers. While your child is in diapers we will also use the diapers that you supply, disposable or cloth. Both child and family has to be ready to devote the time and consistency to toilet training. We work with the family to make the best plan for each child.
