Our philosophy was to create non-profit Jewish funeral homes with greatly reduced pricing, dignity and superior service in the Apter family tradition (as our great grandfather did when he founded Philip Apter and Son in 1902). Our family has served the Jewish community for 117 years.
Our mission is to serve and financially assist the Jewish communities of Essex, Morris, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warren counties by lowering the cost and maintaining the dignity of the funeral, while donating to organizations that serve the Jewish community and working with all families to best provide them an affordable and memorable service.

The J.L. Apter Memorial Chapels has it's beginnings in Newark, NJ in 1902, with the founding of Philip Apter and Son. My great grandfather, Philip Apter, arrived from Europe with my great grandmother Olga and, after there first son was born, started the funeral home. Years later, my father of blessed memory, Philip "Buddy" Apter, instilled in me the desire to continue in the funeral business.
