I grew up in a very matriarchal family. Women were powerful, change makers, resilient, educated, fighters, executives, and drop dead gorgeous. But James and Leroy, my grandfathers - they were artists. They saw the world differently and I found that intriguing. I remember as a child going to Leroy's house and staring at his collection of photographs.
They were portraits of women - working, loving, dancing, mothering, nurturing, and simply existing. Each image displayed a strength, fragility, beauty and grace that was palpable. 20 years later, their legacy inspires the images you will see through J. Leroy Photography. I am an artist fueled by a fascination and passion for love and life with the goal of drawing eyes away from distraction to the beauty in front of us.
