Services
Hillside Animal Hospital has been serving the tri-state area for 30 years. The hospital was founded by Dr. Steven H. Harman, the current practice owner, in 1978 following his graduation from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Originally, the practice consisted of Dr. Harman and his wife Jean working out of the basement of a small brick house on Rt. 40.
Dr. Steve Harman is a life-long resident of the tri-state area graduating from Keyser High School in 1971. He attended Potomac State College and the Ohio State University and received his veterinary degree in 1978. Upon completion of his degree, Dr. Harman and his family relocated back to Eckhart, MD where he began his veterinary career and founded Hillside Animal Hospital.
Hillside Animal Hospital is a state of the art facility with a staff that provides individual attention to the wants and needs of its clients. We provide services to dogs and cats as well as rabbits, pocket pets, birds, and exotics. Annual to biannual wellness examinations are the cornerstone to healthy pets.
To allow adequate time for all patients, our hospital operates primarily by appointment; however walk-ins are welcome when time permits. Walk-ins will be seen after all regularly scheduled appointments. True medical emergencies will be considered a priority. Payment for all services are due at the time those services are rendered.

Our fur child had to get 4 teeth extracted and we were so scared about the procedure and the price. She came out completely unscathed and is doing amazing right after we have just picked her up!! And the bill was only $165!! I am so glad we have found this vet and I hope we can continue to have good experiences with them!!! Thank you Hill Side for taking away such a huge weight that we’ve had for a while with our pet!!

This vetinarion hospital is the best around. I have seen some reviews that were complaining because of the time it took to get in or the price they had to pay !! Or the fact that they take your animal in the back and hold it hostage till you pay? Now that's even funnier. Due to Covid things are done differently than prior to Covid and that's okay because the care they provide is what's most important and I feel like they are number 1. They have saved both my animals that were nearly on their death bed and they also have the privilege of sending mine off to the rainbow bridge with

Since moving to Cumberland in 2020 Hillside became our veterinarian. They are well organized, professional, courteous and caring.
We have this past month had two occasions for emergencies, one for our visiting Frenchie grand dog, and one for our Corgi.
Each time, one after hours, they addressed the problems in a timely , appropriate manner and the pups are better.
Great people, a well run practice.

This is my 3rd visit to Hillside and I am done! This last visit I sat in an exam room for over an hour - all to see the Dr. for 3 minutes, and of course get a steep bill. My cat gets a clean bill of health, yet they take him to the back and hold him until you pay - as if you are a second class citizen. This place has no respect for their customers. Are you looking for a great personal experience for you and your furry loved one? Look elsewhere!

Really outstanding. They went out of their way for me for five special needs rescued kittens and made what was otherwise a difficult situation infinitely easier.
I used both the veterinary hospital and the boarding facility, and at every step the staff and doctors were compassionate and went out of their way to work with me in helping to keep these kittens safe.
I would recommend Hillside - both boarding and veterinary hospital - to anyone in the area looking for a knowledgeable, caring provider for their pet.
