I have been coming to Lucia at her shop, Cualtzin Salon, in Alexandria for the last 4 years and she never disappoints! I have long, thick blonde hair and she keeps it healthy and strong even though I go blonder and blonder every year. She takes her time, as she should, so don't expect a fast turn around - just sit back and let her work her magic!

I came to see Lucia for the first time today after reading countless raving reviews. I walked in with botched curtain bangs, lopsided hair and a prayer to the universe.
My is naturally curly but I straighten it and occasionally change the part. It requires a versatile hairstylist. Lucia is skillful and professional. We had an in-depth consultation before she started and she addressed all my concerns. Hands down, the most refined haircut I've had since moving back to the area 5 years ago. I will be back again and again and will send many people her way. Thank you a million times Lucia!

Lucia is the BEST! I came in with the vaguest idea of what I wanted (curtain bangs and balayage), and Lucia nailed it—it looks even better than I imagined! (Usually after a haircut it takes me a few days to get used to it, but I was thrilled right out of the gate). Seriously, my hair has never looked this good. She is a magician!

I had a great experience at Cualtzin Salon yesterday! I found them through Yelp and was not disappointed. The salon is spotless and they work so hard to make all their customers feel as safe and comfortable as possible while following covid safety measures. They take your temperature upon entry, have you read and complete a covid-19 form, sanitize every surface and area in use, and kept ample space between customers and employees. This review is long over due! I moved to Old Town Alexandria in September, 2020, and the first thing I needed was to get my hair colored by someone with talent. Being new to town I had to rely on my own research and what I found online. I reviewed multiple websites for local salons and decided to give this salon a try because of their kind messaging on their webpage. I was scheduled to have my hair colored and cut, with highlights, with the owner on a Sunday, which was my first “Wow” moment. Sunday appointments were not available back in California. I highly recommend this salon! They were very careful with the pandemic going on, and made sure everyone always had their masks on and were distanced the entire time. I have never in my life dyed my hair, and with the pandemic, figured I'd try it out and also pick a fun color! My hair is super dark, thick, and long, so it took practically the whole day to get it done, but they were so patient, accommodating, and really paid attention to detail and made sure that everything came out perfect! I love my teal balayage hair!

I'm only in the area temporally, but so thankful to have been recommend this place! Lucia is fantastic and Lex was so thoughtful; she gave a great head massage when washing my out my hair. Lucia took the time to blow dry my naturally curly hair straight with ease. Must say, not an easy task. Place was super clean and only top products were used in the coloring of my hair. You won't regret coming here. Friendly. Professional. Well worth it.

Lucia is the best!! I was looking all over the DMV area for a salon that met all my expectations for dedication to the environment, sustainability, animal welfare, and waste reduction. Cualtzin Salon, and Lucia, met and went above and beyond! They are transparent and passionate about their products, processes, and business practices. They are a Green Circle salon, and recycle their PPE- definitely research these practices, they're amazing! Lucia is amazing! I came to her with hair destroyed by Enclave Salon (worst salon ever!). They hacked my hair up. Literally they chopped 5 inches off despite the fact I told them 3. They also gave me chunks of brassy orange that was not well blended. I had a giant orange chunk in the front of my face. Lucia accommodated me on a Sunday and spent hours fixing my hair. My hair went from looking horrific to actually looking good thanks to Lucia's expertise. I wish I could give her more than 5 stars. She really knows her craft!

Kayla is awesome - always does a fantastic job and has a real knack for blondes and getting my tone just right. My hair tends to want to go brassy, and other salons I've been to have not been able to keep that under control, but Kayla always does an amazing job.
The salon environment itself is very relaxing and low-key -- usually only a few people in there and a nice view of the passersby on King St. The have coffee, water, etc. and overall just a nice way to spend a couple hours

I came here for a blow out before a Christmas party. Although I sort of like the salon, I think the inside needs more attention to detail. I did notice some used gloves (colorist gloves) on a table by the seating area which confused me. Also they seemed somewhat understaffed.
Anyway, Kayla did my hair and spent a lot of time on the scalp massage and gave my hair nice body when I left the salon. I was sad to see that 30 minutes later my hair flattened, so I wasn't a huge fan of the products used (after the fact). She did style it well but I guess I wish the style had more staying power.

Although I've already given 5 star in a previous post, I just had to revise my review and just really elaborate on how fantastic Cualtzin Salon! Like I said in my last post, Lucia has worked on my hair many times in the past, but I haven't really visited her much since she got her own salon boutique.
I made my appointment with Lucia and even asked a few questions which she responded right away. I was only going for a styling so nothing too crazy. It's been almost 2 years since I've been to her salon and let me just say that she has kept that salon in top shape! Her place
