Elkin Veterinary Hospital is proud to serve the Elkin NC area for everything pet related. Our veterinary clinic and animal hospital is run by Dr. Debra Garing, who is a licensed, experienced Elkin veterinarian. Our team is committed to educating our clients in how to keep your pets healthy year round, with good nutrition and exercise.
She received her undergraduate degree from Tufts Universary then attended University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine where she was member of the Phi Zeta honorary society and received her DVM degree in 1984. She is very active in the community including serving as President of the Rotary Club and serving on the board of Grace Clinic and the Foothills Art Council.
Our appointment book is computerized which allows us to efficiently make appointments for you and your pet. Our receptionists and team will attempt to accommodate all requests to the best of our ability. Emergencies are accepted anytime our clinic is open. If you feel you have an emergency with your pet, please call us or come to the hospital immediately.
Blood tests are an essential part of diagnosing what is ailing your pet, just as they are in human medicine. Blood tests can tell the veterinarian a myriad of things, from whether your pet is dehydrated to whether he or she has anemia to whether your cat or dog is suffering from cancer. Red blood cells are used to determine a number of factors.
When was the last time you had your pet's teeth cleaned? According to the AVMA, pets who have never had a teeth cleaning have signs of dental disease by the time they are three years old. For that reason, Elkin Veterinary Hospital recommends that all pets have a yearly dental cleaning and oral examination.

Dr Garing is amazing and actually cares more about the animals than the money. She truly goes above and beyond and she will work with you to some degree financially if you cannot afford to pay for all of your pet's treatment at the time of service, hence why I say she actually cares about the animals.

We took our little Beagle in today to get his stitches and a drainage tube taken out. Two weeks ago he had to be rushed to Carolina Specialty Vet in Winston Salem for an emergency surgery because of an accident where he was badly hurt while running a rabbit. Our follow up Appt. was today w/ Elkin Veterinary Hospital. They are so sweet, took time to answer my question and was very good to our little dog. I'd definitely recommend them as a vet. They are located right beside of John Boys BBQ in Elkin.

Yesterday was one of the most difficult days of my life. My little Sammy (my Shuh Tzu) had been in declining health for a while. It was obvious that it was time to put him down. Dr. Garing and her staff were the best ever. They took me right back into a room (I didn't have to sit in the waiting room) and allowed me to hold him in his final minutes… of life. When they started the procedure the allowed me to stay with him until it was over. GOD allowed me to have this little guy for almost 17 years and yesterday I had to give him back. He is healthy and happy again now and will be forever
