Jow Ga Kung Fu
Jow Ga (aka Chow Gar, Chow Ka, Chau Ka, Zhou Jia, Chou Gar, and Jow Gar) was founded by Jow Lung who was born in 1891, on the eleventh day of the third lunar month in Sa-Fu Village of the Canton Province. His father was Jow Fong Hoy and his mother's maiden name was Li. At the time of its inception, the particular style of Kung Fu was labeled as having the head of Hung, the tail of Choy and the patterns of the tiger and leopard, or simply Hung Tao Choy Mei.

It was so labeled because the essential techniques incorporated the muscular and mighty movements of Hung Gar and the swift footwork and complex kicking of Choy Gar Kung Fu, making it a very effective form of self defense with emphasis on simultaneous attack and defense. The Jows were farmers native to Sa Fu Village.

The Jow Ga Kung Fu (aka Chow Gar, Chow Ka, Chau Ka, Zhou Jia, and Jow Gar) system precisely incorporates elements from 3 Kung Fu systems (Hung Ga, Choy Ga, Bak Siu Lum), creating just the right combination of fluidity, speed, and devastaing stopping power of which this unique fighting system is greatly renown.
The founder of Jow Ga Kung Fu in America has been called a "living legend" and honored by the U.S.A. Wushu Kung Fu Federation (USAWKF) as "outstanding master" in 1998. With that coveted award came induction into the USAWKF Hall of Fame and a tribute that acknowledged Master Lee's "profound ability to inspire the many people around you".
Tai Chi enables students to cultivate "Chi", the intrinsic energy of life force of the body. If you are serious about learning an authentic and traditional martial art or want to sharpen your self-defense, there's nowhere else in Virginia that can offer you the combination of expert instruction and talented training partners that you will find at Jow Ga Kung Fu.
Jow Ga Kung Fu offers a caring, safe, and well structured environment where children can learn the art of Kung Fu. Special emphasis is placed on building strong moral character by developing concentration, confidence, and discipline. Children also learn cooperation and respect by working together. The important skills can help children perform well in school and in general feel positive and well adjusted.
Sanshou is a Chinese combat sport that combines full-contact kickboxing, which include punches and kicks, with wrestling, takedowns, throws, sweeps, kick catches, and in some competitions, even elbow and knee strikes. I'm going on my 7th year at this school. It's one of the only traditional kung fu schools in the area.

Fantastic teaching from a renowned grandmaster in an environment that gives a family like atmosphere. I've been doing tai chi over two years now and over 6 months into learning Kung Fu. Anyone looking to truly learn should go

We just moved to our new location, with far more floor space and overhead. Pardon our dust as we settle in, but classes have begun here!

This is the source for real Chinese martial art, not martial sport. Jow Ga is noted for being a no nonsense fighting system effective against trained fighters. Classes provide a nurturing family atmosphere limited only by your drive & discipline. The school provides a rich Chinese cultural experience with dragon & lion dance, China tours & a full range of martial arts equipment.

I really respect Jow Ga. Both my cousins and my siblings and I attended classes here, my cousins extensively, my siblings I for about half a year or so in HS. It was a really friendly, easily digested experience, and what I learned there stuck with me. Sifu Lee is an experienced teacher. Recently I revisited then to purchase some supplies for my continued martial arts and Sifu Lee was as helpful, knowledgeable, and prepared as ever.

I started studying with Sifu Lee in the early 1990s. After 20 years I have only started to scratch the surface of Jow Ga Kung Ku. Master Lee allows you to go as quickly or as slowly as you are able. After you have been at the school for a while, he will see your dedication and you will be allowed to take on more responsibility, including teaching and performing with the Dragon and Lion teams. Sifu Lee is from China and he is definitely the real deal. He is the co-founder of Jow Ga Kung Fu here in America. Master Lee and Dean Chin started the first Jow Ga School in Washington D.C. in 1968.
