William G. Turbyfill, Sr. established Peninsula Funeral Home in 1927. The business originally consisted of the funeral home and a wooden casket company that were located in separate facilities in downtown Newport News. In 1938, Mr. Turbyfill's son, William, Jr., joined the business. Together they built a reputation for caring service and attention to detail.

Mr. Turbyfill, Sr. died in 1962. After taking over the business, William, Jr. planned and oversaw the construction of a new facility in mid-town Newport News, that was completed in 1968. His foresight enabled him to expand his business from serving 250 families per year to more than 500. In 1975, his wife, Margaret, joined him as a Funeral Service Provider in the business.

Terrible, the worst. In sad times this funeral home does not communicate well. No one gets back to you when they say they will, especially Jennifer. This funeral home likes to pass the buck. We have called this funeral home several times for assistance and information on our lives one and each one of them acted like they’ve never dealt with a grieving family before. No one cares and they all show it.

They show very real compassion for all family and close friends very organized . each and everyone there was gifted in this profession. They keep things in order but allow whatever time is needed. My family has always used them. May The Most High bless each and everyone there.

The Peninsula Funeral Home facilitated the funerals of my stepson and husband. Each service was handled with kindness and professionalism. The funeral home offered a comfortable facility that was felt spacious enough for a large crowd, but intimate enough for a smaller gathering.
The cost for the services was high, but comparable with other funeral homes. Additionally, they suggested ways to make the services more affordable.
Overall, I would recommend this funeral home.

My family has used this establishment since almost it's inception. I have grown to know them & consider them family! When I lost my Mom 18 months ago, I told her nurse I don't want her to go to the morgue, he say she must :( then 6 hrs later shortly aft 9A I got the call from Samantha that she was safely in their hands. Nothing but first class here folks - in all facets - As he states in his advertising: It takes a Family to Comfort a Family. and that - they do!

My family has used Peninsula Funeral Home for all of our funeral related needs since 1990 - 4 burials and one cremation. They are always so helpful, kind, and thoughtful in the process. My cousin was cremated through their home last week and they worked very carefully with both sides of the deceased's family, who weren't on good terms with each other. The memorial service was handled very well and was peaceful. Thank you so much for your assistance.

The home is beautifully maintained and the directors and staff did a wonderful job with my father's funeral. I have worked with many funeral homes and funeral directors as a pastor, and Peninsula Funeral Home did a really great job. We never felt pressured, we never felt like we were being "milked for money" we didn't have. Everything was professional as it should be.

We started and finished with Deanna who was amazing but during the bulk of the time we dealt with George and he was out of this world amazing. He was the best person we could have dealt with in our grief. He was patience and understanding with us. All I can say is trust in George.
